I currently look after a few domains for different companies but i always buy single packages from various web hosting companies that deal with just one domain name.

I want to buy a package that I can put them all. I've been looking for ages and was hoping someone could give me advice on weather i need a reseller package?

Reseller packages are normally about £25 per month (that i've seen). Then there are business/developer packages which you can normally hold about 50 domains on but are normally only 10-15 pounds per month. which seem good for me.

Is there a good reason why I should get a reseller package over one of these business/developer packages?

Thanks

Reseller hosting accounts allow you to create end user accounts. Basically, each customer will have his own control panel, and be separated (access wise) from the others. In the case of the cPanel control panel, the reseller gets access to WHM to create cPanel accounts.

As long as these "business/developer" packages have the same capabilities, they might be a good alternative.

Therefore, if I'm the only person looking after the sites then I don't need a reseller account I guess. Even though i am technically a reseller as i'll be charging for the space as well as my services. and the only difference is really the WHM which i don't think i would ever need to give out access to the cpanel. If someone wanted access to their files i would give them ftp details for their domain.

Are reseller accounts just for people intending to make money on just selling domains or/and server space?

The reseller account will give more usability to the clients you are hosting. WHM which is used to create cPanel accounts is a great feature every client will want. I'd say go with the Reseller.

That is, assuming their site doesn't have a database.

A reseller account comes with another advantage - a level of separation. Should one customer's site experience a very busy day, so busy that the server stability becomes a problem, your provider will only suspend the end user account, not the whole reseller account.

Oh really. Ok thanks. I've also thought, instead of phoning me every time they want a new email address added, they can do it their selves. Athough, the cpanel will confuse the hell out of most people. Can't win.

I look after 2 reseller accounts were I work i've never felt safe giving out the cpanel details for an individual account as i think they will delete something they shouldn't do.

I'm not worried about accessing the database, because if they were doing that then I must have fell out with the client because that is what I would be doing.

You may find a reseller package quite limiting in what you can offer to clients because some companies do oversell their "reseller" packages.

A VPS may be more suitable.

There are reseller accounts that come with end user support (though I doubt there are many offering it by phone).

If you really need to have separated management of all the accounts, similar to the described reseller options, then reseller account may be good. But I would rather prefer a multidomain package.

Are you looking for different control panel access for your different domains? Keep in mind that if you get a business account that supports multiple domains, the additional domains will not each have their own control panel
