When I want to use domain forwarding, which of the following would be best for me to use?

302 Redirect - Temporarily moved
301 Redirect - Permanently moved

I have a hosting with two domains, #1 is for the main computer version of the website, and uses its nameserver for that domain.

A second domain I use for the mobile site, and just have it forwarded to a file in the webhosting of domain #2.

This way I get to use the same database, and some .inc files are common to both sites.

Naturally I wish to know which of the two forwarding types should I select for domain #2.

I do not plan on changing the forwarding any time soon, but would like to know anyhow.

Technically a 307 response is a temporary redirect for HTTP/1.1 as a 302 is a "Found" response, which means that the content can CURRENTLY be found at the supplied URI. The effect is the same but there are differences in how the user-agent should handle the caching of the returned data.

If you are redirecting based on the useragent string it really doesn't matter, the response code only really matters when you are redirecting search engine UAs.

Thanks for that tip to both above.

How would this change with Search Engines?

301 is the best for your website in a seo way.

Not necessarily. It all depends on what you want to achieve with the redirect.

You would probably use a 301 response in the opposite direction, to keep SEs away from the mobile version.

In my experience, I've always used 301 for all redirects because it is much more consistent in redirecting and the impact on SEO has never been negative. I see 302 being fairly obsolete now a days.

+ 1 to this, because with temporary changes, Search engine has to keep a track record of those changes for your websites ranking and once it got confirmed a permanent change it become suitable for it to sort out the ranking of that particular website. (Well it's just my personal assumption so far)

And your assumption is completely way off the mark.

A permanent redirect will pass value to the destination URL while ever the redirect is in place and eventually the destination URL will replace the redirected one in the SE index. If the "permananent" redirect is removed the value passing will cease and the URIs will revert to two independent entities.

A temporary redirect does not pass any value and both URIs may stay indexed.
