I wonder, what is the best and worst host you had experience with?

For me, the best is Hurricane Electric. Their servers are very fast and stable, and support is great. I wish they had lower prices, but the service is worth the money.

For worst... cannot think of one. I experienced some quite bad, but I was with them too short to remember their names.

Worst has to be hosting-unlimited.net a UK webhost.

Why? ...

Each morning around 7am a site I had with them would go offline for around 2 hours, they responded blaming me for the server being down, the site being slow

1and1 is my best, after all i dont even pay for it! I <3 FREE TRIALS!!!

i think yahoo takes the #1 spot... if your site becomes 'too popular' they make you start paying for the site, plus who wants a subdirectory domain, theres always redirects, but still yahoo = EWWW

canaca.com is the worst. they oversell there servers. there basic account for like 5.99 is like 10Gb space and 200Gb band. definatly overselling. and there were also numerous downtimes. they suspended my account for overloading the server.

thats a complex question.

web1000 was the worst as far as service, followed closely by Ipowerweb.
Godaddy was the best for service, but their prices are too high. Plus the servers went down alot.
Yahoo is the worst when it comes to price, service, and refund policy. They ripped me off for about $50, and I never even used the hosting.
They refunded the hosting fees, but the "setup fee" was not returned. I wasn't a dedicated hosting account. I don't see what that setup fee was for.

Even though their customer service is horrible, I have found Ipowerweb to be the best. Who cares if they answer the phone quickly if their servers are always down? I have hosted 3 sites with them for over a year, and never once was my site down. I have even found their dedicated servers to be very affordable. The only downfall is that you end up waiting a minimum of 30 minutes for technical support. They do eventually answer though.

I guess it boils down to what you are willing to deal with. I can deal with waiting on hold for 30 minutes. What I can't deal with is server downtime. I also can't deal with email only support.

Best Host - http://www.qc1.net, I'm with them now. They've been really good so far with promt and friendly support and only tiny amounts of downtime.

Worst - When I was on free hosting - http://www.freewebs.com

Jenbb - Dedicated server has to be rackspace.com (they're not cheap though).

The best server ive ever had is rackspace but after a few months i realised that i couldn't afford it. I went on to Nexpoint's (nexpoint.net) shared hosting which is almost as good and far more affordable. Both places had fast servers and were really helpful.

I've never had a terrible host but freeola, google and ntlworld truly are naf.

Well, I'm not too thrilled with Hurricane Electric right now. I get hosting through Cooplabs, which is on HE's backbone...I'm not too happy with them either. Earlier last month, an entire /24 block got blacklisted by spamhaus, and it took a good while to get that resolved, then a day or two later, more IPs showed up.

Now, my sites are down completely. Although a couple of my friends' sites hosted on cooplabs are up....although, their (the host) site is down as well. So...since their site is down, I can't submit a trouble ticket. Sites have been down since midnight. It is now 10 hours since they first went down. Not good at all.

Most of my frustration goes to the actual hosting company, but I do have some beefs with HE.

Well as I have been designing since 1997 I can only say that in that time I have seen a lot of hosting companies come and go. Some were bad and some were worse! But for the last year we have been using a company that we stumbled on.
http://www.uswebsitedesignandhosting.com Their price is reasonable the service is unbelievable with a 24 hour live Toll-Free tech Support line that we seldom have to use on their part. They have answered questions far beyond Hosting and have been there for all our clients.

OK now I am not getting paid for this, I know it sounds like I might, but we are that pleased with there service.

You asked..

LOL. You "stumbled upon them" and you "like their service" or you are them!?

I can say that 1and1 are very good and one cheap company who
works very good. I have seen that their servers are very fast
(Faster than the planet) for example from my country
The Planet have trace from 160ms
1and1 have trace from 120ms
which is better
The second good think is their VPS hosting is on very good prices
and if their uptime is 99.9% (how its guarantees, and 100%)
this will be very good. I Think that if they Guarantee 100% Uptime
for VPS Hosting they will reach more clients that the planet for more than 1
or 2 years ... I Think very seriossly to get VPS server from them
and to change my VPS provider from The Planet to 1and1.com ...

What are thinking other users for their VPS hosting services
and for their speed
In USA their speed is faster than the Planet, in the Euro Union again its faster
like 50-60ms its better ...

I think that 1and1 is very good company
I am owner of other company but I can recommed 1and1 like
on of the best companies on the net ...
It might be cheap but the support is good I don't know how are their uptime
but I think that we'll be greate !

I've been very happy with Kualo. Their customer service is great, and very fast.

I've never had any experiences that were all that horrible, although Nevidia wasn't that great.
