I register a domain name on 1and1.com a year ago and the domain name has expired... I was hoping after the domain got expired I would be able to pick it up else were for cheaper.

So I emailed them and asked them to release the domain name so it'll be available for me to pick it up else where.

They told me to cancel my package, which i did last week and still the domain name is under their control.

When I emailed them again asking them why they haven't let go of the domain name they told me I had to re-register with them again.

Is this how all the company’s work? Or do they just keep the domain for a little while then leave if be after a period of time of no one picking it up?

This domain very important to me and I can't have it under 1and1.com because I have no way to pay for it since I don't have a credit card anymore...also I know of someone who way cheaper than 1and1.com.

This is driving me up the wall.

I believe there is a "waiting" period before domains are completely released. 30 days after expiry from my understanding. If you want to register it somewhere else you may just have to wait this amount of time.

i hope there's truth to that... geez why can't the support people explain that to me... this way I wouldn't be *****ing so much to them or asking them so many different questions.

Can anyone confirm what was stated above?

Hi the best way to get yourself out of this situation is not let them DETAG the domain which I think you may have asked them to do.

There is a danger that once the domain is detagged it may get snapped up before you have time to register it again.

The best way forward would be to transfer your domain name out from 1&1 to another IPSTAG. Preferably the IPSTAG of the new domain registrar you are going to use.

Then you can pick the domain name up again and re-register it there.

If you have any problems doing this and need further advice PM me and I'll help you get it sorted.

Thanks

Andrew
