Hi!

Am moving my website from a crap location and buying a domain name. What do I need to do? By the domain name first (in which case where's the cheapest and best?) or pay for my hosting first? One place I was going to register the domain wanted servernames?

Any help appreciated

Toby

hiya.. first of all you need a domain name. I would recommend www.godaddy.com or www.ukreg.com. Make sure you do not register your domain name with your hosting company!! u can get domain names rather cheap nowadays.

Once you've got your domain, u need your hosting! i would recommend www.ebreazehosting.com.U can email them for a custom package

If u need any help let me know on this thread

good luck!

Hello,

namecheap.com and godaddy.com are great. For hosting, I would suggest gamergang.com, they have great shared hosting.

It really doesn't matter in which order you do it in, but you may want to get a hosting account first. Your hosting company will give you the nameservers you need to enter when registering your domain name.

If the price is right, there is no problems with registering a domain with the same company you buy hosting from. Starting out, this may actually be the easiest thing for you to do. Just make sure the hosting company registers the domain in your name and not theirs. This way, if you move hosting companies you can take the domain with you without any trouble.

If you need assistance with anything, feel free to email or PM me personally. I'd be glad to help you out. Good luck.

You can actually do both in a single hour. Its the propagation of the domain that takes time.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. I've registered www.tobybrown.info with namecheap.com (got them recommended by reading another thread in here.

Have catalyst2 as my hosts (as they came recommended by a friend of mine).

Problem I have is this;

In the namecheap part, I've added 5 forwarded email addys. Mail@tobybrown.info, admin, toby, tobybrown.... all @tobybrown.info - when I send a message it never gets forwarded.

Do I also need to enable dynamic DNS and should I transfer DNS to webhost?

Catalyst 2 question (their support as I have just found is awful) - what do I need to do to get my site up? There is a url forwarding section on both sites, this worked originally and now does nothing (try going to the website - just doesnt exist) - and I can't ftp my site up.

An relativly new to all this, have secured my domain so happy with that but any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Toby Brown
