Data recovery

My server was hacked and I had over 40 databases on there. Everything was shut down. The hosting company had to clean the server off and I had to ftp 100 sites back up.

How difficult is it to recover databases fuly in tact? Should I expect my host to be able to recover all of them? What is the usual fee for a hosting company to do this kind of recovery?

My host wants to implement a "disaster recovery plan" in case a hack of this magnitude again and says it will be an extra 60 -80 dollars per month for this plan. This plan will allow data to be easily restored , he said. Does this sound right?

Also, who accept the liability for my loss if data is not recovered? Does my host have any liability or do I just accept my losses?

Thanks.

What are the terms, you should make your own backup's of all data

You should not be charged for any disaster plans that they have in place or wish to introduce in the future.

Can I get this clear, are you the host, meaning you operate the server, or are you a client on the server who has a site with a host?

It really all depends on the TOS your host has in place. If they offer backup restores as part of the service your already paying for, then I don't see how they can charge for it in the future.

What do they mean by "disaster recovery"? If they are offering a seconed failover server with full replication, then it may be in your interest. But if it's just daily backups and restoring, then it's not worth it.

As to who's liable when data is lost, again, look at their TOS. Usually a server hacking is your liabilty whereas hardware failure would be your hosts liabilty.
