is it possible to have email for a domain hosted with one company and the website hosted with another?

these are the questions i am asked at work, they pay for things then ask if it can be done.

So, uh, can it? Anyone have experience with this?

Jamie is correct. Simply purchase two hosting accounts, one for the website and one for email. Then update your doman nameservers to point to your website host, and update your MX records to point to your email host.

There are some hosts that also offer email only hosting, so you wont get all the features of a normal hosting account, just what's needed for email. You may want to look into these.

thanks so much guys! Both hosting packages have already been paid for, and the email is already set up and we're putting the website up soon, i just wanted to make sure changing the DNS wouldn't mess up the email

thanks again guys
