We use www.siteuptime.com for some of our servers and have been very pleased. We've also got Nagios (www.nagios.org) installed and running on one of our servers. It's a nightmare to configure and setup, but once it's running it's great.

InternetSeer.com provides a related service. You get a free account with them when your website is hosted with PowWeb.com.

Had siteuptime ping and custom port allowed on free accounts I would use it but now I use www.serviceuptime.com since they have all this and much more like Custom Time Zone, SSL and SMS alerts not mentioning more worlwide locations on free accounts. Anyway try both since they all have 1 free monitor. good luck.

I don't know. It does work for me. Anyway I guess they all use some 3rd party sms gateways and it's not their problem. Some mobile providers are blocking sms from outside their network like I can send sms to my friend in Italy but never got the message from her though she tried many times. Serviceuptime still gives one test sms to check if it works.

Thanks all!

So, I've finally chosen www.serviceuptime.com... Seems it is what I need. Their free accounts have almost no limitations (unlike siteuptime)... even SMS alerts is available!

rtm, so how is your monitoring? Do you use free or Premium account? I'm just thinking on moving to Premium account and wonder if you had any problems with serviceuptime.

uppanel did not work out for me... one day it just started sending me alerts every 10 minutes so I had to disable my monitoring. Even when my server was available for me it was not for uppanel I quess. I also didn't manage to find MSN, ICQ, AIM alerting. I really do not understand why "Uppanel works good" for everybody but me?

SiteUptime chargest $5 for 5 minutes checks, serviceuptime charges $15 for 15 minutes checks, so that is a big diference in price and service.

Why choose services on the internet when you can do the job yourself?

Run a local copy of server monitoring software such as IPSWITCH What's Up Gold.

Just use a PC that dosen't have to be anything special. You can set e-mail, SMS, pager alerts and more. I find it very usefull and customisable too.

Just a thought!
