I am setting up a new hosting company and am doing some market research, what I want to know is what do you, webmaster want from a hosting package, how much space, bandwidth and add-on domains. this is the sort stuff I want to know. also how much would you pay for a hosting package. Also should I do tailor made hosting packages?

Some idea I had was to offer unlimited everything for $49.99 per month is this right should I put the price up?

Tell me what you think.

My advice would be to stay away from unlimited. And I would suggest offering custom packages as each persons needs are so different.

Yes, do not make unlimited bandwith
accounts !

See 5 or 10 webhosting companies
and I think that you can expect what
will be your hosting plans ...

Example
for Cheap webhosting plans

20GB Bandwith Plan 1
2 Multiply Domains
4.95$/mo.

40GB Bandwith Plan 2
6 Multiply Domains
7.95$/mo.

This is my advice for shared webhosting !

You must guarantee at least 99.5% uptime guarantee
also 30 days money back, or 14 days moneyback is one PLUS
to your company ... Use PayPal for Credit Card payments ...

I think that I gave you good advice for starting your hosting business ...

Your server speed must be at least 10.0MBPS

For USA VPS or Dedicated Cheap servers

see: www.1and1.com www.ev1servers.net

for high quality hosting: www.theplanet.com ...

Unlimited is not so good, becouse
peoples are not too stupid to get
unlimited hosting plans I think !

For example one server at theplanet.com

with unlimite bandwith is no more than 2000$/mo. ...
on 10.0Mbps international Speed.

Every VPS or DEDICATED SERVER, has limit on traffic
with 1TB of bandwith ...

For example make hosting plans to
500GB Bandwith in the plans ...

My company offers now hosting plans to 400GB Bandwith !

Thanks for reading this topic,

Zdravko Mihov
Manager,

If you can afford buying 2000$ servers than your hosting company is a big one.
If you have servers with 1 ore 2 TB bandwith how will you cover your bills if 4-5 customers use their alocated resources?

I'll agree with some of the other posters in this thread -- unlimited or "unmetered" bandwidth (or anything, for that matter) simply isn't possible. Thinking that your clients will only use xx or yyy gigabytes of bandwidth is a sure way to be proven wrong, often the hard way I note that some forums I have seen will not even allow hosting companies to post offers that involve unlimited/unmetered anything.

I would also note that perhaps above all, what many customers look for in a hosting company, is an enduring commitment from the company in question to provide high-quality hosting. Excellent product support and server administration, for me at least, plays a far higher role than bandwidth, storage, or even price. Good hosting also recognizes the human element to the business, always keeping in mind the fact that when people purchase hosting, they are buying a means to express things that are of deep value to them. That goes from the simplest of webpages, through to blogs and even to full-scale e-commerce sites. I call that "empathetic" or "empowering" hosting.

I send all my new customers to a web hosting company in Florida...

Why?

Because they have been in business for years and have a proven track record of more than 99.8% reliability (Its 100% for all my customers combined), they provide daily backups to tape, automatic failover and (most important) they provide 24/7 technical support.

I don't need their technical support often but it is ALWAYS at 2:00 am when I have a problem that requires their assistance....

Nothing makes me madder than having a problem with a customer website that is hosted where there is no support off hours or where the support is poor...

These people are not bargain basement priced but I believe you normally get what you pay for....
