The nightmare that is GISOL...

I have 2 separate hosting accounts with GISOL, both of which I paid a year in advance for. I felt rushed into doing so because of there "Offer Expires 04/27/03" line, which changes to match the current date.

I have had problems with this host from day one. Just days after I uploaded my content they had deleted everything off of the server. After I opened a support ticket (they NEVER answer the tech support line) I was told that "Your account had been corrupted and I would need to re-upload all content." They seem to use the "Your account has been corrupted" card very often. After that it seemed relatively smooth for a month or two and then... Downtime in spurts on a weekly basis. I can still never reach a tech on the support line and I am forced to use tickets, which they take absurd amounts of time to read and reply to. The longest noted time was one full week.

I also receive false errors all the time... "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" is a very common one. Just recently I experienced over 18 hours of downtime due to this error. This host is costing me money.

I REALLY need a quality host that has relatively affordable prices and well managed tech support etc.

Sounds like a nightmare! I'll keep a note to avoid them

Why not take a look at http://www.hostrocket.com. You can't beat their Economy Special for price, they're pretty reliable and tech support is (usually) excellent.

Also heard good things about http://www.unitedhosting.co.uk

Another person getting "screwed by gisol" bad to hear that they seem to go down quickly.

i cannot recommend hostrocket.com as they are having issues on some of their server. I'm sure you'll find enough reviews about them on the web.

Regards

Make sure the host you go with allows you to pay on a monthly basis. There is no host who can always suffice your needs, but you have to try to find someone who serves your interest best.

Too cheap a price is always a warning. Plus make sure you absolutely grill them on the presales queries. You have a right to know every bit of information you can think of. Take your time, read testimonials and settle down with the host you feel will give you a proper nights sleep

Cheers

Hi,

I agree with Allwin -- if you ever see a host that's offering "quality" hosting at dirt-cheap prices, be skeptical! I'm not saying that all expensive hosts are good (CIHost is a scam), but in general, if you go for a host that's offering higher-priced hosting, chances are that you'll be getting better servers, bandwidth, support, and reliability.

I'm resurrecting an old thread because I'm mad as heck at GISOL.com

I got in cheap, had few problems for years, then suddenly 5 months before my contract ended I was railroaded into a mandatory server upgrade at a premium price. I went along and suddenly 6 months before my current renewal, I've been "hacked" and they had to suspend my account and the only option was to upgrade to a new long term server contract.

Stay way away from these guys. I saw elsewhere that they're apparently starting at least one other company, I don't have the name though. I'd be sticking with highly rated companies that have been around at least a decade at this point.

Some hosts have had a not-so-stellar reputation for years, yet they survive just fine. I've always been baffled by that. I've come to think that there must be some level of customer stickiness that helps them. Lots of hosting customers hop from host to host, but if say 50% of them are ready to go through hell with their host rather than leave, that may just about be enough for the company even to grow.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with them, and better luck with your new host! Give us a review on them too when you have the time and have accumulated enough experience. Maybe you can even use the free monitoring from Pingdom to give us a very accurate uptime report.

I think that you need to accept that as the lesson for the future. That is sad that the experience you had with them is not really good. But that is your experience and I believe next time with the choice you will have more points to consider
Do not give up

Dear twotasty it could be just right time to move to the bigger web hosting solution. If you were on shared you might need VPS if you were on VPS you might need to have some bigger VPS or dedicated sever.
I surprised why the company you are with haven;t warned you about the limits???
But you had made the mistake as well: you signed for the one year wuth web hosting account.
I think that was your own mistake
I assuming you hoped for the some kind of the discounted price.

From your story I think you need some sort of VPS. From my past experience I can recommend you pinellashosting.com
Good luck and do not make the same mistakes

That is all about all eggs in the same basket.
And you have lost everything at the same time.
I suppose that in the future you will have separate accounts from the separate companies
Do not make the same mistakes

You don't need multiple accounts with different providers if you deal with reputable companies rather than looking for the "cheapest deal" Or "UNLIMITED" hosting

In the end you will always get what you pay for and usually pay for what you get!!
