As conkermaniac pointed out, there strictly is a difference between bandwidth and data transfer. Most hosts use the terms interchangeably so for all intents and purposes they mean the same thing at this level.
As for the term "unmetered", I have yet to hear a coherent explanation as to what this means. It doesn't really mean "unlimited" but they'd probably like you to think it does. Regardless, there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. It's impossible. Everybody (and I mean everybody) pays for bandwidth and that's why no one will really offer you an unlimited quantity of it for a fixed price. Same could be said for unmetered: If you're not "metering" it then as a bandwidth provider you can't possibly keep track of your costs and will probably end up going out of business in short order. That's why these guys will just shut you down after you run up a few gigs of transfer or whatever they decide is "enough".
Bottom line is to stay away from this kind of host. Don't bother challenging their claims. Don't even talk to them. It just isn't real.
