Within the next 6 months or so i'll need to look at purchasing a dedicated server for an eCommerce project. Maybe 10,000 - 25,000 hits a day max. I've already got my server co-location figured out here locally, but am debating what i'll do for hardware.

I've already got a slackware server that i use here for a couple apps and it's kicking ***. Although, for this larger scale project i'll be using Redhat for the optional additional support if needed.

I was looking at some of Dell's offered servers (dual 3ghz Xeon's, RAID ? array, 4gb ram, etc)..

Does anyone have any suggestions for a server with the above mentioned traffic criteria (10-25k unique users a day and ~50gb bandwidth a month?)?

Suggestions are appreciated!

So u are just looking for hardware for your Box? This is a bit confusing. Generically I would go with a Dual Xeon and 2 Gigs of Ram. http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ct_Code=100413 there is a box and below is the recommended Dual Xeon.

Yes, i'm just looking for the hardware. Just interested to see what people think *might* be adequate based on the above mentioned criteria. Box would be running PHP w/ mySQL or MsSQL

A Dual Opteron with outperform Xeons by a big margin. There was a cheap high spec one for sale at WHT, place at least 2GB of RAM and SCSI drives in and it will fly, he would change the ones currenty in.

(1) brand new 1u IBM 325 dual AMD Opteron 264 (2ghz), 1gb ram, 2 x 120gb 7.2k rpm 8mb cache ide drives (new maxtors), dual 1gbps lans, dual PCI-X slots, does not need a KVM break out cable uses standard video, and usb keyboard / mouse. Has scsi onboard if you wish to switch to scsi drives. Comes in the IBM box w/ rail kit, manuals and cds. $1200, or for $1350 I will upgrade to 3gb ram, for $1800 I will upgrade to 6gb ram and pay the shipping. Try to find a better price online and I will match / or beat it.
