Think Geocities. Think Angelfire.

Without taking bandwidth or space limitations into account, but only system resources, how many of these simple, free hosted websites do you think you could fit on an Intel Xeon Dual 2.8Ghz server?

Only thinking about not melting the processor here. Of course, as a free host, it wouldn't need to be the fastest hosting in the world, but it couldn't be really, really slow either.

Also, FTP would be available 24/7.

As many poll answers as possible appreciated, but if you have any suggestions to improve the number, please do reply.

There is really no way you can say you could hold thousands if it was just one page websites or static pages but without details on what sort of websites there is no way of really saying however I would say around 200-300 mark safely

If the websites was like those in your signature you could easy have double the above but again it generally is depends on the busyness of a website. I know of a website that runs across 48+ servers and that is just one website

Considering that most Free Web Pages do not generate that much traffic (except the people putting up downloads) and that you probably would not be granting MySQL access, depending on how you monitored it you should beable to get 500-750.

They'd be much, much simpler. As in my first post, I'm referring to almost individual, simple HTML pages - not more than 4 or 5 per "website". That's in quotes because they'd actually only be subdirectories.

Thanks, easdesign, I was hoping around that number.
