uptime percentage = (u / d) * 100

u = uptime
d = downtime

If you have a site hosted with them sign up with an online web site monitor ( there are a lot out there ) and they will do all the work for you ( most of them are free of charge )

http://www.siteuptime.com/index.php is a free one. I would recommend getting with your web host and asking them if they recommend any particular uptime monitors.

http://www.easyuptimecalc.com/ can help you calculate uptime levels.

If you want to monitor a site's uptime you can use a like host-tracker.com. It's free and allows checks up to a period of 1 minute.

You can also run a monitor locally on your PC. Ipswitch do What's UP Gold which is quite good, but you'll only get an uptime from your PC. Most good monitoring services monitor your web site from different locations.

good luck!

Let me try to help a bit.

Instead of calculating your uptime, it's a bit easier to calculate the downtime.

The downtime calculation is something like this:-

D = Total downtime (in minutes)
T = Total time in the month (in minutes)

Downtime (in %) = D/T X 100

Example:

A site which has only 2 hours downtime in a 30-days month will have downtime % like the following :-

D = 2 X 60 minutes = 120 minutes
T = 30 days X 24 hours X 60 minutes = 43200 minutes

Downtime (in %)
= [120/43200] X 100
= 0.2777 %

Uptime (in %)
= 100 - 0.2777
= 99.7222 %

In other words, you have 99.722% of uptime throughout the month.

Hope this helps.

Well I see people have listed a lot of site monitors already May as well add mine to the list. It will send you daily/weekly/monthly reports of your uptime automatically and save you from having to do the calculations yourself. It's hard to calculate unless you have frequent repeated testing of the site anyhow which almost has to be automated unless you are awake 24/7 to do the testing manually

The link to my tester is in my signature, I'm just doing beta testing right now so it's currently free, there will eventually be a charge for the service but it will be significantly less than most places charge and offer more features than the free sites.

Good luck!

Siteuptime.com is definitely worth while. Even if you do decide to pay the $5.00 extra per month to get a more accurate reading.
