Hi [mblack],

If I'm not mistaken, Breezeland has been down for the past few days. From what I have heard, they have not contacted their users about anything -- not on the forum either. It seems like they're dead, but I guess we have to be patient.

Conker

Hmm.... this seems to be what they sent out:

Quote:
As you will know by now, Breezeland was the target of a major SPAM attack which began on Sunday 18th. This attack resulted in Breezeland being cut off from the network by its provider. We managed to get this particular issue resolved after a day of negotiations with our provider.

A few days later, we were to learn that ICANN, the world registrar of domains, had received complaints about the spam coming from the Breezeland server. ICANN then began proceedings to take down our domain name from its registry. This would have meant the end of the Breezeland.com name.

We were completely powerless to prevent all these events. However, we should never have allowed unrestricted use of the php mail function. You can rest assured that when we get back online, php mail function will stay switched off until a solution is found.

It would seem that those individuals who planned the demise of Breezeland.com came very very close to achieving their aims.

We would like to send apologies to all our members for the inconvenience caused. We are truly sorry that our negligence regarding the php mail issue has caused so much damage, not only to the Breezeland name, but also to the countless sub-domains that we host.

We are continuing to negotiate with ICANN and expect a result in the coming days.

A bit of good has come out of this whole experience though. At least now our members can see how far people are willing to go to bring us down. That at least shows us, and our members, that we must be doing something right.

For as long as we have the support of our members, it does not matter who may want to destroy the Breezeland project. Breezeland will not disappear. Breezeland is here to stay and we will always offer the best free hosting and much more.

Thank you for your support.
We will be back up in a few days. Bigger and better.

Breezeland Management.
It certainly sounds very dodgy to me. ICANN have no power over individual domains and spamming isn't any grounds for a domain to be deleted.

I'd suggest finding another host because you could be in for a long wait.

Yes, a very shady excuse, and I don't buy it. I seriously doubt that they will come back.

In any case, I have not heard about a "second e-mail". Free webhosting services are the primary focus another forum I frequent, but nobody there has spoken of the provisional forum of which you speak.

These are some posts that I found on another forum that I frequent.

Breezeland is dead (?)

This is sad, great host assaulted ( this email is from may 22nd, havent heard from them since )

...he goes on to repost the Breezeland e-mail, which you read above, in David's post...

The MAIN sites and USERS sites has not been accessible for a few days now,
FTP is STILL WORKING tho

"bring us down"? Oh dear... Breezeland thinks "they're all out to get us"...justa wee bit paranoid me thinks.

I tried the mail() function about a week ago and it was disabled.

This is why the companies are trying to take away their domains...They can see that Breezeland doesn't quite know what they're doing...and fear it will happen again.

This is why I ask every month or so for a free host with mail() enabled to test my scripts. I have yet to find one...because if it's free, members simply abuse it.

I'm beginning to think that these SPAM and DDoS attacks are only pathetic excuses for being incompetent to hold up a server for a longer period of time.

But that might just be me.

Still dead at this time...
I just use free hosts for pointers, anyway.
Dearly beloved...

Afraid not. I got that message from the same place as conker. I'm not personally a member of Breezeland.

I used them, but about two weeks ago, we pulled our content off of them. Just wanted to make everything on our server, so we got rid of that host account. Good thing too.

Breezeland are struggling, first they almost lost their busniness due to massive abuse of mail() and now more downtime (for whatever reason)

I'm sorry to say that i think unless they make some serious changes soon (i.e running ads on hosted sites to try and get some more funding) i don't think they will be offering free accounts for a great deal longer, i hope i'm wrong, but it's just one thing after another.
