Hello,
I have a server running red hat ES 3 working perfectly at my house. I have a static IP DSL line connected to the box. I can type my IP from any computer and see my web pages working perfectly and very fast (333mhz machine 256mb of ram).

What I want to know is how do I make my domain name point to my static IP? Is there a company that does this already? What is this service called (redirect? NameServer Forwarding?, DNS redirect?)?

Thanks in advanced I really appreciate any and all feedback.

Hi,

What you need is a DNS server for your domain. Some domain registrars provide you with a default DNS server that points to a temporary 'under construction' page until you update to your real host's DNS, and some of them will allow you to use their DNS server to point to whatever IP you'd like (for a small monthly fee usually.)

What you need to do is set up a host record for www that points to your IP address then people will be able to get to your static IP by going to www.yourdomain.com.

If you don't have a DNS server available from your registrar or otherwise you can find many on google by searching for DNS Host. There are many that claim to be free on the first page but you'll have to weed through them to see which actually are, it shouldn't be expensive at any rate.

Good luck!
