There are tons of hosts out there that offer no ads and lots of bandwidth, but you will have to do some work, such as making a certain number of posts on their forums. More and more free hosts are tightening the signup process to prevent abuse.

The Wicked Webmaster offers 20MB of free web hosting with no bandwidth monitoring or ads. You don't have to post or do any work for it either. http://wickedwebmaster.com

You should try also www.freewebs.com, no ads. In the other hand, they have a 50 files limit and you have to upload your files one at a time.
Theres another one called www.freewebsites.com, but they load a pop up, which you can choose to be at enter or exit, 50 MB, 2MB limit size for files, email addresses unlimited and your sub-domain.
