OKAY WEBMASTERS HERE IT IS...!

I didn't originally join this forum to learn how to design web sites even though you all taught me the advanced knowledge for making killer sites.
I've had this same problem for the past two months and maybe I'm going at this all wrong or the answer is simple & easy and I can't see it. Well N-E way here it is.
At this point I have my index.html page uploaded to my domain host and I can see it in it's html coded form and I can see it in it's original template form when I view it in the control panal. But what I can't see...is the actual content of my site online. I MEAN: "When I type in my domain name to do a search I find my site but my content is not seen." The only thing seen is a temporary page: RED HAT ENTERPRISE LINUX TEST PAGE. By now I know I'm uploading my site correctly I've gotten the best directions from DianeD, Praveen, chrishirst, Twitch, collyer 1, Chris krasnichu, Fuzzy Logic, kovacs, dcahrakos, & lil_cat_luver. Besides the fact that this is the best forum for web designers I'm sure those who give me advice know what their talking about otherwise they wouldn't have their own sites, right. By now I'm frustrated because after learning HTML, JAVASCRIPT, CSS, & FLASH I'll be able to design a better site in half the time, but because of this problem I won't be able to get it visible online.
My question...? What is keeping me off line? To my understanding I should be able to see my own content when I launch my domain. Whatever you guys can think of trust me I will try it. At this point I'm ready to chew out my domain host because they sent me out to find a talk forum and you guys nearly gave me an education that I can't use because I'm still off line.
Alright let me stop rambling. There is my question though and anything you can tell me will be helpful.

ThanX 4 being the best WT

Are you sure your index file is in the right folder of your website files? If it's in the wrong folder it won't show when accessed online in the usual way as the files are picked up from the main folder. Check your host's help file to see if it says which folder to load your index.html file to.

I also asked my host this question because I wasn't sure what folder to upload to, at first. But they've instructed me to upload to /httpdocs. But I do agree with the 'www' folder, it sounds more sufficient. I'll ask my host about it.

Different hosts use different folder titles for the main files, e.g. one of my hosts uses "www" while another users "html_public". Best to follow your host's advice on this point as it should know which folder is the right one.

Check that index.html is the right title for your host's system. If you can't find out, try changing the file title from index.html to index.htm.
