I'm trying to work out what the market price is for a total website package for use of a decent template design adapted to the customer's needs (as distinct from the "design it yourself on our website" services); a .com domain name; and hosting.

I'm interested in the fixed price "off the shelf" services rather than any "websites from $X - call us for a quote" options.

Anybody got any ideas or links on what the market is doing?

Well, it'd be difficult for companies to say your website will be designed for $xxx.xx, since they need to know what you're looking for. The only website design that I know will have a fixed price, would be templates. You even said that your customer has specific needs, so I'd suggest finding a design company who'd you like, stating your customer's needs, and then waiting for the custom quote.

Web hosting is a different story. You can get a .com domain name from NameCheap for $7.99 per year using coupon code 'SAVE7993'. Currently, they're offering 1 yr. free of their WhoisGuard, WHOIS privacy protection. For web hosting, take a look at the Web Hosting Industry Index, which monitors fluctuation of prices in proportion to web space and bandwidth.
