Hello,
Last 3 months I bought a hosting service 1 year for $119.40. They gave me 120GB bandwidth each month. However, you will never be able to use all of them, even 1/2 of them. They never told me about it, and it is only tiny part in their TOS. It's talking about CPU.

Your site only can use 2,400 seconds of CPU each day. You can't use over it otherwise your account will be closed and your money is lost.

Please take a look at my math about their CPU...

- I have 120GB bandwidth per moth.
- My CPU per day is 7,768.00 seconds (130 minutes).
- With 7,768 seconds (130 minutes) --> I lost 3GB bandwidth per day.
- 3GB x 30 days = 90GB bandwidth. So, I stil have 30GB nonused bandwidth everymonth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However,
With 40 Minutes (also means 2,400 seconds), how much bandwidth I will
lost?
Let SEE:
- With 130 Minutes ------------------ I will lost 3GB bandwidth
- With 040 Minutes ------------------ How much bandwidth I will
lost ??GB

*** I will take 3GB x 40 Minutes devide 130 Minutes = 0.923GB per day.

So, with 40 minutes I will loose almost 1GB bandwidh per day(?)

With almost 1GB per day x 30 days = I will only use 30GB per month when I have 120GB limit permonth. (???)

Sound doesn't fair, does it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I edit and test my site everyday from 3 to 6 hours. With that time, 40 minutes which YOU gave me will be used by only me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THEIR SERVICE? THEY OFFER HUGE BANDWIDTH, BUT THEY NEVER ALLOW YOU TO USE ALL OF THEM.

THEY HAVE A FORUM WHERE CUSTOMER OR GUEST CAN VIEW ABOUT THEIR SERVICE AND POST AN ANSWER...HOWEVER, ONLY GOOD FEEDBACK WILL BE KEFT...OTHERS WILL BE DELETED. THE MATH ABOVE I POSTED IN THEIR FORUM AND IT HAS BEEN DELETED 4 TIMES.

SHOULD YOU BUY FROM THEM?

MY SITE IS WWW.PHIMNGUOILON.NET HAS BEEN SHUTDOWN AS WELL SINCE ITS BANDWIDTH WAS OVER 2,400.

Its always good idea to read terms of service when you sign up for a hosting account. In this competetive market, web hosts are luring customers by offering huge bandwidth and diskspace in their plans and then putting a clause in their TOS to put a limit on them.

Hosting companies are capitalizing on the fact that 95% of the websites on the world wide web use less than 1GB of bandwidth per month. Its always better to prepare a checklist, a quistionaire to webhost asking about all this things and then pay.

What in the world does CPU time have to do with bandwidth? These two things are not related in any way.

They are threatning to cancel for using excessive resources? That's not unusual. Do you have a script that runs that's doing a lot of work?

see, i would have taken a note of your post if u had notched up some more posts. but the fact u have just joined and you are having a nice lil go at someone with your "math" calculations is absurd

if u take sometime to read their faq's they clearly state

Quote:
If you appear to be in danger of exceeding your monthly allotment, our system will send you an e-mailed warning to let you know. That'll give you a chance to take action before you incur additional charges for bandwidth usage.

We will never automatically shut down sites that exceed their limit.

and the fact is their TOS doesnt talk abt the CPU usage in the manner specified by you

the only mention of CPU is as follows
Quote:
The customer agrees to make use of DreamHost Webhosting servers primarily for the purpose of hosting a website, and associated email functions. Servers are shared with other customers, and as such IRC-related activities, BitTorrent software, or severely CPU intensive CGI scripts (e.g. chat scripts, scripts which have bugs causing them to not close properly after being run) are not encouraged. IRC bots and bouncers (BNC) as well as BitTorrent software specifically may not be run on any DreamHost Webhosting server, and if your processes are adversely affecting server performance disproportionately DreamHost Webhosting reserves the right to negotiate additional charges with the Customer and/or the discontinuation of the offending processes.
and they have the right to delete your "Math" when it doesnt make any proper sense.

and if u site fits any of the above, i am sure they have the right to cancel/close/shut it down.

As I told them that I didn't have any stuff above. there was just a small forum and music player (the music files was connected from other host). That's all I have. My site was run by PHP source. So can you tell me what's going on if I use PHP for forum and music?

With 2,400 CPU seconds per day. My site should only run by HTML and some simple pictures. Should you buy for that?

Thanks for your ideas.

you could post a link or anything on dreamhost site/tos which says this..

as far as i am concerned, if u r gonna talk abt this with your Math calculations, then its absurd and senseless to go by something u "created" in ur head.

i see you have been there as well.

what it says does makes sense.

if one user is gonna hog the server resources, the others will see their site slowing down or sometimes inaccessible.
so, everyone will complain and when the techs see that you are using those resources, they are within their right to close your site down.

for simply, you are making the server do more work for you when it should be handling others as well.

u arent doing yourself any favour by jumping up and down all over and blasting dreamhost all over. they might be even here and if they are reading this they would be very pleased abt it and you might not even get the site back there.

i suggest you contact them nicely and ask them to restore it.

I agree with Anacrusis, becouse CPU
have problems when my clients uses a lot
of MYSQL DB and querries per seccond.
I had one warez client one time with
one P2P stupid portal which connects
trought IRC, and their visitors updates
their databases from IRC and my server fall down.
I deleted his account directly and give his money back.
MYSQL use a lot of CPU, I gave many MYSQL DB,
but now I give very small MYSQL & POSTRAGE DB.
