Hello everyone,

I was wondering what is the difference between bandwiths??? And can you guys/girls give an example of each? for example, what bandwidth would I need for a small ebusiness (1-1000 visits a month)?, a large ebusiness (1000-50000 visits a month)?

Thanks

Well bandwith is measured by your sites content.

If you alot of images, content or downloads your bandwith usage will be alot higher to say a site with one page of text and thats it.

What kind of site are you planning? Give us a few more details

If you are using a shopping cart you could easily get away with 15GB of bandwidth, I wouldn't look for anything more than 30GB at the start. You would not come close to any of those figures at the beginning

That article's really useful.

Basically, look at the size of your files. Every time a file is accessed you use that file size's bandwidth. So if you cut down on graphics etc. then you use a lot less.

That's exactly it. It's one of the reasons why it pays to use well written code when developing. Graphics are generally going to take up the most space, but if you reuse them across pages of your site then they'll ususally be taken from the cache of the visitor's computer and not the server on subsequent requests which will save bandwidth as people move around in your site.

It's also why it's good to separate style into a css file and put all your javascript in separate files as well. once a visitor gets them with the one page they don't need to be sent from the server again.

Your bandwidth is just the sum of all the file sizes that your site has to send out over the month. Smaller file sizes will save bandwidth.

Thanks for the replies,

I have a web designer who is using flash images on the home page. Its gonna state the nature of our business as well. After they login, customers will be redirected to the forum where they do business. After I read the article, it looks like im back to the drawing board. Not only do I want traffic I want a quality site. The article is saying eliminate images or put them in a different "mode". I guess after I get my website up and running I'll show you what I'm talking about. Hopefully everyone likes it.

Thanks again

Bandwidth is a measure of frequency range. Bandwidth is depends on your file sizes. If file size is small then your required bandwidth will be small, & if your file contains images then your bandwidth usage will be alot higher.
