....well, I didnt' really mess up, because, for now..it's for a "fun" personal site of mine for now. Though, so far...haven't had much issues with them (esp. compared with mysitespace.com)

But I did a search on here about Godaddy, but apparently people "poo poo" it termendously.

See, this is what happens when I watch the superbowl, and I see a woman's top fall off at a hearing...and I figure, "Hey, they have a commercial during the superbowl..they gotta be good, right?"

So, I just remember "The name Goddaddy" and go with them.

However, If I am to host for clients, should I go a little better than that?

I've saw some people cite: Hosting Zoom, Lunar Pages, Interland (looking for a site builder with pre-made templates)

Interesting, I remember the 90's it was more involving to make a site....now they make it so the site can practically build themselves. LOL (With all these interfaces)

One thing I have noticed differently though.....the addition of "Setup fees"

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Godaddy are big company but their are most know as a domain registar. I suggest you to keep your domain with them but to find a hosting company to host your website with.

cheers

we have commercial site with Godaddy for over 8 months. our plan is very basic still we are happy with them.
FYI, we have hosting with many other people and had with many hosting companies and Godaddy is not very best. But at least very good.

These are usually there to encourage yearly payments, which come without setup fees. Otherwise, hosts that don't make yearly payments a part of their business model, usually don't charge a setup fee.

You just encouraged me to save for a Super Bowl ad. With any luck the hype will bring the masses to me....kidding.

It's funny because this week I'm working on a site for a client who's hosting with godaddy. I really haven't had any experience with them before. I grew to dislike them very quickly.

I can't speak for the hosting itself, but when I wanted to ftp into the server so I could upload some files it wasn't anything easy. godaddy uses a separate uesr/pass for the ftp than it does for the account which is fine except they don't mention that anywhere. I did find an area where I could set passwords, but it looked like it was for the account and not specifically for the ftp. I didn't want to change it since it's my clients account and not mine. Ultimately it took a call to support to find out the info. The password also requires the use of certain charachters in it or it won't be valid. Again no info anywhere on the site.

All told it took 45 minutes to get access which is pretty sad when I started with a username and password and when the process should have taken less than 5 minutes for me to find the info.

What I don't like about GoDaddy is you're forced to register the domain names for 2 years. I hate paying in advance because I don't know if I'd still be using the domain after 1 year. But I ended up buying a couple of domains from them since they're pretty popular and reliable

Actually, pal... You don't have to register for two years at a time. I used to think the exact same thing until I slowed down a little during the purchasing process, and found on one of the pages, there is a drop-down that is automatically set to two years. If you hit that and select one year, you're good to go. =)

I hosted with GoDaddy for almost a year, and I found their service decent if not excellend. They may not be the best host out their, but it my opinion, they are certainly in the better half.

VernalHost: What!? Where is it? Seriously, I see no "drop down menu" at the checkout page to select the no. of years. Maybe I'll try again later...
