I have a dedicated server on aplus.net - but I am attacked by some hackers with DoS or something else. So now my site is down the whole day because the CPU is running at 100% because of this attack. The hosting site says that I can buy a hardware firewall for my server but its 149 dollars each month... Expensive when you only have your site for fun. Anyone who have had the same problem as me? Or someone who has an idea of what I can do ???

We had similar issues. I'm surprised at ahosting - they seemed pretty good. They should've banned the attackers IPs for you, and installed a software firewall.

Zipservers were very kind to us, and when we had these problems installed BFD and APF. I highly recommend these; CPU usage went right down.

If you're not experienced yourself in installing these, you could outsource it via Rentacoder.com, or get somebody trustworthy here to do it

Your host should be able to provide with with some sort of protection against DOS attacks. They should not make you purchase anything.
