What's the best control panel to look for on a host?

This follows on from finding out that cPanelX mightn't be the best control panel in my thread on problems with cPanel
http://www.webmaster-talk.com/web-ho...-problems.html
but this is a different issue so I've started a fresh thread as people might have opinions on this thread but not on the other one.

If I'm thinking about switching hosts, what is the best control panel to look for for ease of use, reliability, and speed of use?

Thanks

I just shifted to a new web host and they have a really cool control panel. It doesn't look like the usual CPanel that most hosts use. There is a demo that you can check out at http://www.webspacebuddy.com. I'm loving it

well this depends.. obviously cPanel, hSphere and so on are the most widely used control panels. they have a very good user interface and people are used to them.

As to your question about what features should a person look for in a control panel.. i wud have to say that any will do as long as they serve your purpose

maybe before you join a host next time, you should ask if they can give you a demo run of the control panel.. a lot of hosts do this... even we are thinking of introducing it...

There is no "best" control panel although cPanel is considered by most to be the "best".

Your previous problem is not so much a limitation of cPanel, ANY online file manager will give you problems when managing a large amount of files, regardless of the control panel you use. That is why FTP is available to you. If this is the only reason for choosing a new host, I strongly urge you to reconsider.

If general speed and responsiveness is what you want in a control panel, I recommend Direct Admin. It is very stable, and in my personal opinion, laid out just as well as cPanel. A good resource for hosting questions and info is webhostingtalk.com. Good luck.

Yet many of them have never actually experienced another control panel.

True, and this is because cPanel has the most market share.

Thanks all.

I think I'll stick with cPanel as it seems to be the market leader. It's a case of better the devil I know than the one I don't, plus I'm happy with my host and a different control panel without huge benefits wouldn't justify a change.

The problems I'm having with it at the moment will disappear soon as the volume of control panel work will drop dramatically once I get my main site sorted out properly.

I'll also check out ftp.

Thanks again.

cPanel is the best. It offers different features, which are very useful. cPanel comes with addon fantastico which allows you to quickly install a variety of open source scripts. Because of this it has most market share.

Although many provided for their customer for free, originally Fantastico is NOT FREE CPanel AddOn.

cPanel is the best, and it is userfriendly. It's easy to use online.

cPanel is just the most popular. If you want reliability, it's Plesk.
