I am having a site transferred to me but I only want to have the web site on my server.

I want to leave the email setup alone as several people currently send email through the domain,

eg, mail.whatever.com ect.

Can this be done ?

You will need to point the MX records of your domain to your old server and have mail.whatever.com point to the old server. This is all done at the server level so you will need to ask your webhost to take care of it for you.

Yes, the only thing you need to do is to change the MX record IP address to the third party email provider.
