I say that it depends. A webhost that is picky about what sites they allow can be cheap and still have quality. What do you think?

Typically, with low cost hosting something needs to be sacrificed. Usually the first thing to go is support, next in line is quality hardware. So yea, most of the time "low cost" and "quality" don't go hand in hand. But of course, there are exceptions.

I would say that often times the first thing to go (or rather diminish) is the profit, which does not represent just spending money for the company owner (as some might thing), but it's also the future of the company. After all, any major step requires capital.

It does really depend. Some hosts just run the business to make lots of money some just do it for some fun and money. You notice what type of business it is straight away! Mostly you can get low cost and quality, but low cost to a rich man.

I use DreamHost and WestHost and have no complaints. WestHost, especially. Love their suport.

I also heard that WestHost is a good company, as well as Servint and LayeredTech.

So, in other words some hosts might be taking a loss by giving away more than they make right now in hope that one day they will make a profit after they have built up a large customer base. Is that how you see it?

Not at all, it can be done. There are a few left that you can still get both, they're just hard to find!

My little company, thunderhost.biz, provides very good service and features, and the cost is low. It can be done, but it is very tough, admittedly. I have about 120+ satisfied users.
