Hey guys, not trying to make any competion here or anything lol.
But, ive been wondering what are some good free web hosting software for windows and scripts?
and how do I set it up? I mostly, want to try hosting just for testing.
or to set my friends, up with simple subdomains.
would, anyone be kind enough to hook me up with some good links
Note: I will, be running the domains+webpages through my pc......
I have my own domain, through my own host.
I just wanna, see if I can use any folder on my pc. from my ip address.
like copy files, to that folder and view my computer through browser.
and download/upload files, and make forum, sites, etc
my computer specs:
1.6ghz amd 64-bit processor
512mb ram (soon to be 1GB)
windows xp pro
80GB hard drive (upgrading to 120GB soon)
40GB hard drive
geforce 6200 128megs

Active Server Pages would be a start. It's not part of the default XP Pro install, but it can be installed as a Windows component if you go digging through Add/Remove Programs.
ASPTear is a cool free component for spidering web pages, although it can run heavy if you're not careful.
Other than that, I really don't know.

First off, you'll need Apache, PHP and MYSQL.
Installing them individually (guide here) isn't too hard, but it's not easy for a novice.
These are all free but there are easier ways of installing all of them at the same time. EasyPHP seems acceptable but there's got to be something better out there.
I haven't tried Xampp personally, but hear good things. Look's perfect for what you want.
Good luck!

Personally i'd go and download a copy of a linux distro and set up apache+mysql and dns servers on there and then point the name servers you are gonna use for your server.
There are some free webhosting panels out there - check hotscripts.com
