URL MASKING / Forwarding Solution?

Our main site is mainsite.com . Due to tech difficulties, our ecommerce site is newsite.com . Mainsite.com links to newsite.com on gallery page.

I've noticed that people are bookmarking and entering newsite.com directly & bypadssing mainsite.com .

This is NOT what I want. Is there a way to mask or forward mainsite.com so no one views the newsite.com URL?

Thanks,
J

The question I have is: why would you care if they went to the e-commerce page directly?

I can't see a logical reason for making them go through one site to get to another if they can skip the step as they're doing. Besides, you set up the e-commerce site to get people to buy stuff, and e-commerce sites don't work if they're not as easy as possible.

Having said that, you could put the new site as a frame within a frameset containing a 100% width/height frame and one that's 0x0. It would mask the URL somewhat, although a savvy web user will be able to get around it anyway.

Are you planning to move the newsite back to mainsite once technical problems resolved then?

Why do you need users to visit your homepage? Is there something important they need to read to aid the buying process?

Basically you are not able to control where people enter your site, many people will come to you through search engines and could enter your site(s) on almost any page. Best to think about what the user wants rather than what you want...

Thanks for the replies. We are a photography business, so mainsite.com is important for presentation and informational purposes. The cart site newsite.com is simply a gallery to purchase photos and photo products.

So, mainsite.com is very important as it introduces us to the client, provides info etc and newsite.com is for sales after the photography has taken place. Newsite.com was originally a link within mainsite.com.

I think my only option is to have mainsite recoded (it was recoded when I moved to Gadaddy specifically with their hosting limitations in mind - LONG story) and move mainsite.com to reside with newsite.com under one URL (as intended).
