I'm a bit curious to know, what are the advisable sizes of webspace and bandwith for a personal site?

Thank you.

For a personal web site 100MB web space and 1000MB bandwidth is enough if there are only few images and no videos.

I'll second that, many of my customers "personal" sites use less than 25mb and 500mb transfer. When you make your site add up the size of all the files and that will give you a good idea of the space you'll need.

With a personal site you should be ok on the hosts basic package, though look for a host that allows you to easily upgrade your hosting plan if you start using a lot of bandwidth.

Hi,
That really does depend on how many people visit your site, I rmember
getting my first paid package and I bought LOADS of webspace and
bandwidth to be safe, but atleast it never went down due to it! Its up to how
much you are willing to pay too.

I think 100MB space and 1 GB bandwidth would be more than enough to host a personal site but as mentioned above look for a host who will allow you to upgrade your plan easily when the need arises.

I am having 150 MB Space and 4 GB Transfer, but I never exceeded the space of 100 MB ..
50 MB is always a waste.
As far as Bandwidth is concerned, For me it varies from about 500 MB to 1500 MB Depending upon various Reasons

I think it all depends on what you are hosting, images and files require much more bandwidth than plain text files such as html.

without mysql database, just an html site would be fine with 10 - 25mb space.
You can run a very nice site.
If you are using a sql driven site, eg forums then 25mb for small sites,
and 100-200mb for medium sized traffic.
500mb for good traffic site.
Bandwidth may vary from 10gb for a static site to 20gb for a sql based site.

I would say the ideal figures would be 200MB disk space and for bandwith 2GB is plenty for one month.

Many hosts offer plans with 500mb storage and 5GB bandwidth which is pleanty for a personal site, while even leaving room to grow. In my experience these plans can be extremely cheap. I paid $28 a year including a domain name.
