Hello this is my first post here and I registered because I need some serious help with my server

I have a Windows XP and I want to run a server on my desktop computer using the programs Abyss X1 or Apache I prefer Apache.

What do I need to do with the Apache during installation.?What do I enter in the fields domain and server name

How do set it up with freedomain.co.nr

How com when I tried to set it up and typed 127.0.0.1 it showed my website but when I as someone to type my real IP it does not work

I am a beginner and am looking for a really good tutorial on setting up a webserve that works with freedomain.co.nr and uses apache or abyss

When somebody types your real IP address, they are coming from outside of your own network, and chances are your ISP is blocking http traffic becuase it is against their TOS. You will need to configure Apache to run on an alternate port, and open that port on you NAT router if you have one.

I don't know anything about freedomain.co.nr, but you should just be able to point your domain to your IP address. If you have a dynamic IP, then you should look into services such as noip.com.

If you're trying to set up a server to host your site on the internet, my advice to you is... don't. Like I said, your ISP probobly doesn't allow it and will close your account. Your upload speed is likely very slow. Upload speed means everything when serving webpages. Also, your home pc is just not reliable enough to be a webserver. If you're setting up a server just to test and fool around, then go for it.

My advice is just to rent a server from a datacenter or something, it's the next best thing, as your going to have to learn how to deal with the operating systems first and all, then maybe upgrade to business class and get your own server.

Some hosting companies provides also support, so you don't need to learn OS.
