Hello all. I've been looking to choose a server. I only want a basic package but still have access to all dynamic functions as only just learning dynamic sites.
clook seem very good as i've yet to find a bad review and they are cheep. The only problem is they neither use windows or linux servers. The servers seem to use are self built and they have a list of banned scripts and applications shown below -

-phpSitemapNG - Google sitemap creator

-UltimateBBS / UBB

-IkonBoard

-All versions of YABB forum

-CGI-Proxy, Anonymizer and all other Proxy scripts

-IRC related scripts

-Chat room applications (not including 100% applet based)

-phpShell and all other command execution scripts

-Webmail and eGallery modules of PHP-Nuke

-'Matts' FormMail


Can anyone tell me wheather it matters that they have their own servers built and wheather anyone is surprised that any of these scripts/applications are banned. Are any of these scripts/applications majors parts of a dynamic website.

Well, having their own built servers with no linux nor windows is rather stupid, I don't know if their trying to be cool and say "hey, we can make our own operating system and you can't!"

Their probably based off of something....have you asked them?

The scripts they don't allow is a little harsh as well, your really constrained if you choose them so I would suggest looking around for another host with a bit more freedom persay.

Secondly, the scripts that we have banned you will notice are banned at many other reputable hosting companies. For instance, 'Matts' FormMail scripts are normally insecure and many forms are exploited causing thousands of spam messages to be sent from our servers. Other scripts on the list hog system resources and either slow down the server to crash. In addition, other scripts on the list contain security exploits or constantly are exploited.

Our comprehensive list of banned scripts (which there are plenty of better alternatives to) ensures our servers and data stay online, stable, and safe/secure!

most servers don`t support IRC. Because it needs high bandwidth and processor load.
