First buy a hosting plan with your new host, I suggest asmallorange and hostgator. Then add the domain in your hosting panel. After you do that be sure to upload every single file to your new host. If you have MySQL databases go to phpmyadmin on your old host and export the data to a sql file, then go to phpmyadmin on your new host and create the database and insert the sql file. After you have done that go to GoDaddy and change the nameservers to your new host and you are done.

danosd gave some good advice.
If both your old and new host are using cPanel, then your new host can transfer everything for you very easily including email, subdomains, databases, files etc. without you having to do anything at all.

Add the nameservers for the new host on your domain, but dont delete the old ones, then transfer all files to your host, and restore some backups of mysql info etc. to the new host. Then delete your original nameservers, and the other ones should have proporgated, giving a smooth transition into the new site, to anyone.
