I have a freelancers website I use to be on a VPS but it seemed to always be having problems with the clock, down more than it was up and the support stunk so I started looking for others and I cam across these guys Sharper Paths I have there Mega plan it is about $17 a month for 40GB storage and 500GB transfer the only reason I chose this plan was because it comes with SSH access but there are 12 plans to chose from.

So far they have been great the server hasn't been down and when I need it the support is always there.

i was thinking of collaborating with a host for 5$ a month...

I'm paying about $30/month with JVDS (customized package). For me it's worth it since I get root access and can install anything I want/need. Great for experimenting. When I need a proxy, I start a proxy. When I don't I kill it.
My adds make about $40/month so, I'm just over break-even.
It's a hobby/personal site so, I'm not trying to get rich.

One cool thing about the site is, I've been on a few job interviews where the interviewers were familiar with my site and offered me thanks (and beer) for some of the tips on it.
There's no feeling like being treating pseudo-famous in a job interview :-)

I get 40GB bandwidth and 1400MB disk space what is excellent deal in my opinion.

I pay $9 for shared hosting per year, 20 GB. Not recomended, too much downtime

I pay $12 or so a month for 2TB of bandwidth and 250GB of disk space... and it's really fast (westnic.net).
