Can any host beat Dreamhost's price?

With some easy to find coupons, you can get 20GB space and 1TB bandwidth at dreamhost for less than $2 a month (a little less than $24 a year). Is there any host that can beat this deal, especially if they have cpanel because the lack of cpanel on dreamhost is the only thing keeping me from signing up.

Btw, i have no affiliation with dreamhost, i am just looking for the best hosting deal.

Emmm. I think this title should be "Can any host beat XXX's services". Price is not the very important feature for a hosting, but service does.
A hosting package of 20GB space and 1TB bandwidth for less than 2 bucks per month, there must be as many limitations on hosting features as you could imaging. Further more, this kind of hostings should be overselling with no doubt.
I'm not against dreamhost, I just want you to think it more over before you decide, is the fee more important to you, or the stable status of your website.
BTW, I don't see a hosting package of such a low price in Dreamhost. And, due to cPanel is not for free, so any hosts that are using DirectAdmin or so could lower their price.
Anyway, hope you could find the host you wish!

Regards,
Michael D.

The price is $8 per month according to the information on their site.

That's still very good value for 1,000 GB of bandwidth.

its $8, but there are many different coupon codes, and there are a few that I have confirmed to be able to lower the price beyond $2/a month.

That is what you call overselling. They are simply trying to draw you in. I dare you to use all the space and bandwidth and see what happens. I can assure you they will find a way to shut you down. a terabyte of bandwidth that is a joke to be quite honest with you. Again I invite you to go ahead and use it all.

We give out 2GB disk space and 60GB Transfer per month for 6.95, that is what you call a realistic deal

furthermore one should note that with any given dedicated server that is sold at say a large dedicated provider, the most that they get is 2500GB of bandwidth per month. So in essence 2 clients for them would use their whole bandwidth allocation for the month unless of course they have unmetered servers but then again that is usually a sign of low quality bandwidth.

Of course they are overselling. So what? The probability of all users (or even most) filling there space or bandwidth quota is small, so nearly ALL major webhosts do this. So this one gives it cheap. If another host gives it for $10/month they still cannot give me 1TB bandwidth without overselling.

And lets remember the price for the dreamhost plan is actually $8/month, it is only with coupons that it comes down to $2/month.

Actually, the probability of a user filling the bandwidth/space quota is quite large. Eventually, some idiot will decide to test this theory, and at $2 a month it's not a significant risk. Can DH handle a terabyte of bandwidth for one user? Probably. Can it handle it for 2? Maybe. Can it handle it for the 10 or more that will eventually test the theory as word spreads? Hell no.

As another host pointed out (and no, I'm not one, so I'm totally objective on this), it's a sucker ploy. No one is likely to beat the price, but at least 500 hosts are likely to beat the service, which is far more important.

If you're asking this as a curiosity question or to spark debate, then that's okay. If you're asking this as a potential serious customer and someone who intends to use the service, you're looking at it from the wrong angle.

Anyway, the only offer from a big host that sort of beats DH's coupons would be www.netfirms.com/pcworld , but it expires on 30th September, so there's basically just one more day.

As the others have said though, price should not be the most important thing when choosing a host, especially if it is for a serious, revenue bringing website.

Ye, I saw the netfirms offer too but there control panel is pretty bad, alot worse than dreamhost's.

If someone can offer at least 2.5GB space, 100GB bandwidth, CPANEL, fantastico, 5 mysql, php, perl, and a good service and support (better than dreamhost) for less than 2.50 a month, I would choose them over dreamhost. So less bandwidth and space would be fine in exchange for cpanel and good service for equal price.

Any one know any host like that?

That's certainly your prerogative as a potential customer. However, having them there as an offer, and having them manned 24/7 with highly trained staff are not always the same thing.

It's impossible to offer 20GB space and 1TB of Bandwith.
That is offered by Dedicated Webhosting Companies like ev1 and/or theplanet and/or 1and1, etc.

Why is this impossible ?

Becouse if 1 account with 1TB of bandiwth is used on this server, the server can't handle it. One server can handle maximum of 600-800GB of bandwith. Some kind of offers are tricks of partners like dreamhost and other companies. I think that the most important think is quality webhosting (good support, max uptime (~100.0%). fast servers (at least 100.0Mbps speed or more)

Companies like DreamHost make with clents some bad things, like stop your account give you a backup and return the rest of the money, or tell you that you hack their servers, use more than X% ot CPU usage (this is not every time written in their TOS/Agreement). Or they can terminate you account and this is the most bad thing that can happend with big hosting companies like DreamHost, IPOWWEB, GoDaddy or etc.

To be with the biggest is now always best mind this !

Read their terms for server usage policy. As far as I know, the coupon code wil apply for only first month.

It lasts for the full first term of your hosting, which must be either 12 or 24 months. I am 100% about this.

You are absolutely right! It is like one year for $22.50 or so.

You will get exactly what you paid for.

If a cheap price is what you want, DO IT.

If you really want to run a web site look somewhere else.

Been there done that.

Large companies have all the stats for their space/bandwidth usage, so they will not go above the budget anyway. Of course full usage of their resources with all the coupons and discounts will shut them down. But since the majority of people have just one click a day on their poor homepage, it is possible to advertise unreal deals. If they get overloaded, they will just rise the price and most of the clients will still pay just because they got used to the host.

I used to be a customer at DH, so here is my 2c:
If you are just average, normal users (no-commercial site), it's ok to go with them.
If you want to use up that space+bw: they will find a way to kick you out.
