Hi, I currently have a reseller account with a good host in the USA, there backup is excellent and I have had around 99.9% uptime so happy but...

I am based in the UK and the ping time is around 137ms average, yet my old UK space (far more expensive) was only 35ms and quicker loading.

This isn't such a problem with normal html sites but ecommerce sites are very slow, and I feel I will get customers not happy with speeds.

My questions are, is this because I am in UK that the speed is different as has to cross further, and also if I did every change is it possible to change simply by changing the nameservers to another IP with a new reseller? as I don't want the agro of re changing all my customers log on details etc etc.

Any ideas???? or can I make this faster somehow from UK???

Hi all UK, I am in UK. I didn't really know there would be such a difference or what causes it?

I used Tping to test the average pings and many US sites do have this delay.

Anyone know what causes it? or is there a way round it?

Yes, you have longer ping times because the information you send from your computer has to travel all the way to the US and back. Definetly get a host closer to home but doesnt necessarily have to be in England to be good. It also has a lot to do with their facilities and which major "backbones" the host is connected to , so that means you could also look in Germany / benelux countries for better deals.

Im looking for a host in holland myself!

That sounds about right, I wish I had known now as they are a great outfit but the ping time is terrible and now I am a reseller and doing carts too, they really seem slow.

Any suggestions on a good reseller account that is well priced but also you can have your own nameservers?

Fasthosts look good but £50 a month is pricey, I am paying £10 a month now for reseller in the USA.

You would be able to reach around 80-90ms at best from the uk using usa based data centres on the east side (new york area)

You might want to take a look at something like www.clook.co.uk or unitedhosting.co.uk last of all http://uk.resellerzoom.com

As your location and the target market is same i.e. UK then you should go for a UK based company having UK servers it will not only improve the ping timing but also your sites google ranking and your budget is also quite competitive for the UK hosting market.
