Hello, I wondered if anyone might be able to help with a problem.

I paid a hosting company to register and host my domain for a year. Now six months later, they have gone out of business, I assume. The emails you send to them bounce, sites are not accessible to some users, etc.

The problem is I am listed as the Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing Contact on my domain whois, but the Registration Service (defunct hosting company) has the Domain Management ID and password at Enom.com. I cannot change my nameservers to start with another host. I have written Enom and haven't received a reply yet.

Does anyone know how to go about getting this resolved?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there,

Obviously your hosting has purchased your domain via Enom. Now, since they have registered it and they have your account, I recommened waiting for a reply, and if they do not reply, send another email. Stating the urgency of this issue. Keep pestering at Enom, they will reply, I know from experience.

a similar thing happed to us. What we did was transfer the domain to godaddy. Hopefully you admin, tech and owner email addresses are not the same as the domain in question. Just renew it for a year and transfer.

If you transfer the domain to another provider you should be ok as you are listed as the admin contact. This means the transfer authorisation email will come to you.

The only problem that might come of this is if the provider that has gone bust has locked the domain for transfers.

Hello, thanks for all the replies.

I actually contacted GoDaddy to see if there would be a problem if I tried to transfer my domain to them despite the Registrar Block (yes, there was one) because I had not received a reply to either of my emails to Enom. GoDaddy replied within 24 hours and said the block had to be removed first.

I finally found a number to call Enom and the representative emailed me a new user ID and password. So all is well, I can change my name servers! I still have to snail mail them a request to remove the Registrar Block if I want to transfer.

Thanks again for all the help.
