Is it better to have your websites with more than one host?
I'm new to this but my husband has been working on the internet for awhile. He has all his websites on the same hosting. Isn't this like having all of your eggs in one basket? I worry about it.

If the basket is safe, what's bad about it?

True, What i usually do is run a single website over 2 servers (Or hosts) then, if there is a problem you have a backup. I do that and it seems to help.

My best advice is too keep your eggs in one basket and make backups

I think there are pros and cons to both.

If you find a host you like it might be easier to manage everything in the same place. If you've found a host who provides great service too then why not stick with them. I could even see where if you have enough sites your host might offer or be willing to offer discounts.

On the other hand if all your sites are with one host and something happens to that host then all of your sites are gone until you can get them set up again elsewhere. Yes make sure to back up. Your host should be backing up things, but you should too.

Another example would be in the way you market a site. If you decide to practice some aggressive search engine optimization on a site it might be a good idea not to have that site be identifiable in any way with your other sites.

I think in the end it's up to you and the specific sites. Some may benefit by being on different hosts and for some it may make no difference.

Most of my sites are not only on one host, but one computer.

There's nothing wrong with that if you do two things:

1) Select a quality, reputable host.
2) Make backups.

Mind you, doesn't hurt to know what the competition is doing once in a while, either.

Having all sites at one reputable hoster may be a good idea, unless you need diiferent features for different sites or there are restrictions, like for adult content and so on.

I think there is nothing bad in having your sites on different hosts. It's even good. Just back up your database constantly and you'll meet no issues.
