I am soon to be starting a web hosting company and at some point in the next few months I will probably needing some support staff. How much should I be paying support staff/how much would you work for? The hours would be about an hour a day maybe and then we would work on from there.

Thanks guys.

Rather than concentrating to the price per hour concentrate on finding staff that really can do the job. A good support staff knows operating system/s you offer (and knowing it doesn't mean "yes I have it on my home pc"), software that you use, control panels etc. Also they must be polite, professional. One good support assistant takes care of what three cheap amateurs would do in a same amount of time and keeps customers three times as happy.

finding good staff is always important in a business. being a customer and having staff giving you stupid answers or not answering ticket for a couple off days is always bad. alot off people choose a hosting company because off the staff and support they offer.

if your only starting out i suggest you manage the support yourself (porviding if you know how). then once you get alot off customers and feel you cannot manage the support any more then hire someone.

if you provide a good service and have execllent uptime you wont have much support tickets to answer.

alot off compaines would pay someone by the hour. or by the support ticket they answer.

if would recommend payin by the support ticket as it would work out cheaper and would be more cost efficent to your business.

Pay them according to experience; however, what you pay them has to be equal to the amount of responsibility each employee has. In the beginning, you may not be able to hire much support staff because of other pressing overhead. I would suggest waiting until your company is up and running and then assess what your needs are. You may want to consider hiring college students who are studying in this field to work part time. You'd probably have a lot of turnover, but you wouldn't have to worry about paying them more than $10 an hour. I hope this helps.
