Dedicated Server

I was looking around on Google for decent reseller web hosting and I found the package on FastHosts and I saw it was £50 a month. But then I looked at the dedicated servers and the one I customized was £52 a month. It had an 80GB Hard Drive and unlimited bandwidth - its unlimited because I would have my own data pipe!!! - so I think its good value. The reseller package was unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth but I don't trust the word unlimited for web space.
What do you think i should do??

Don't trust a web host who uses the word unlimited. Shared web hosting is never unlimited. Space runs out on servers quickly when you have several websites running on it. Some companies like to tell you they offer unlimited bandwidth, but in actuality they don't, because they can't. It's just an advertising ploy to get your business.
They make this offer hoping that you won't use much bandwidth; however, websites who acutally take them at their word and use a large portion of bandwidth in a month might find their website blocked.
The only type of unlimited web hosting is dedicated web hosting. When you use dedicated web hosting, then you're getting virtually unlimted bandwidth. However, a good rule of thumb is to avoid web hosts who claim to provide unlimited services.

never go with a host that offers unlimited space or bandwidth there is no such thing.
i suggest you try http://v2.hivelocity.net/ for dedicated servers. as theyre support is brillaint.
there is always someone on live chat that can help you with anything even if you purchase a umanaged server. there network uptime is brillaint and once again the support is unbeatable.
what is it you need a server for?

if your looking to start your web hosting business i suggest you start off with a reseller account as you will not benfit from having a dedicated server just yey. spending around £50 is alot off money if you dont have any customers yet.
i suggest you look at getting a reseller account with a hosting company that offers good uptime and execlent support. this will mean you will be spending around £10 per month instead off £50.
once you get alot off customers and can afford a one to purchase a dedicated then i would make the move.
i recommend you try hostingdepartment.net as they give you a free billing system and automatic account creation software free with any reseller account. when i first started my business i used them and they were great. the support is offer is 100% execlent and the uptime is great. all theyre staff is freindly and they bend over backwards for you.

Netricksweb.com offers excellent reliable servers. They are new and work hand in hand with Peer1 Networks and Serverbeach. Awesome equipment, managed or unmanaged servers, CPanle, Plesk, Ensim, whatever you want and the price is right.
Give them a call.
And they always answer their phone.

To follow up on a comment made earlier:
Unmetered bandwidth means they don't track bandwidth usage as part of their services. You can use as much as is necessary.
Unlimited is ... well, theoretically, unlimited.
Unmetered is slightly better because it indicates a more accurate definition. In either event, though, I wouldn't trust it.
As others have suggested, the best thing you can do is to start with a reasonably priced reseller account. Since you're in the UK, I don't know what to recommend (I don't deal with UK hosts since I'm across the pond.) But find a reseller account and make sure EVERYTHING is clearly defined.
Bandwidth.
Hard drive space.
Email accounts.
Email forwards (unlimited isn't QUITE as bad here since email forwards don't store anything. There is still a limit but for all practical intents and purposes, you won't reach it.)
Programming languages used.
Stats packages.
Raw logs.
Support options (email, telephone, live chat, etc.) This is very, very important.
Money-back guarantee.
In other words, do your homework. And when you're done your homework, do your homework all over again. And when THAT is done, do it a third time.

You may also look at a dedi from ahosting.biz. They have not very high prices and a fast ticket support.

well if it is truely unlimited, then cool. it's probably unlimited but the speed may be slow. ask them what the speed of the connection would be for this unlimited dedicated server.

when I was out looking for dedicated servers - the one i liked best was 1and1.com. Godaddy isn't bad - but the prices at other places were better.
We chose to put a machine into colo because we already had the hardware - and it wasn't that much more than using a dedicated machine.
Anything that says unlimited - call them on it and tell them you are going to start a search engine or something like that with terrabytes of databases etc - you will find it certainly isn't unlimited.
I made the mistake of believing one once - and it said it was unlimited - it might very well have been - the cpanel took so long to load - i gave up using it before i even setup a website on it...

If you're looking for a dedicated server, I would recommend servstra.com, I use them for almost 1 and a half year now. Their support service are great, you open a support ticket and they reply you within 5 minutes and less. Their server price are affordable as well.

Their "data pipe" is something like 512K, so by "unlimited" they mean you can only max out on 512K, whilst most server providers nowadays offer 10Mbps or to put it in context, that's equivalent to 10,000K.
Think of it like watering your garden with a tiny thin straw in comparison to a big fat hosepipe.

The company I work for currently uses Plesk with aplus.net. We want to switch to a company that is more reliable, because we have had so many problems and just recently lost our entire server, and had to restart from scratch. I need to be able to host about 50 domains currently, but we foresee have hundreds of clients in the next couple of years. I just wanted to see what people thought was the best dedicated server for a lot of domains.
