Hey All,

I just wanted to let everyone know that Aplus.net is not the company to go with for ANY type of hosting especially dedicated servers.

Get this. I needed a dedicated server so that I could install 100+ E-commerce sites so I deceided to call Aplus.net.

I explained what I would be doing - 100+ installs of the E-commerce software, each requiring a dedicated IP, Certs for the payment gateway, etc. "Sure not a problem" was the response that I got and so I got a server.

After 32 installs of the E-commerce software I went to request more IPs for the next set of installs so I filled out the ARIN short form located on their site as instructed by their support rep. I then decided to continue with another 15 installs of the software thinking that I could bind the IPs after the installs were completed.

Five days passed and I finished all of the installs, product setup, etc I began to wonder what happened to the request that I had filled out and called Aplus.net. That is when they told me that the request had been denied. I asked why was the request denied isn't SSL Certs enough to justify the request for the IPs? The answer that I got was that it is company policy that "no more than 32 IPs can be bound to a dedicated server." It was at that point that I found that I had really been screwed.

So bottom line is that they went ahead and sold me the server even after they knew that I would be requiring many more dedicated IPs than they were willing to allow me for that server. I have since talked to numerous hosting companies that said that the SSL is justification enough for the additional dedicated IPs and that the only reason that they had such a company policy in place was to trap you into more dedicated servers.

So now I have to migrate EVERY SINGLE INSTALL to a new dedicated server that put in writing that there is no limit to the number of dedicated IPs that I can bind to the server aside from the ARIN justification for those IPs.

My word of advice to those considering Aplus is to stay far away from them.

Here's something that I found after the fact that I wish I had seen before I even considered going with Aplus.net

I tend to agree. While an SSL cert does require a dedicated IP, I'd be very suspicious myself.

Why do you have 100 different e-commerce sites? One large one would generally perform better than 100 small ones (see Amazon.com).
