www.hubenterprise.co.uk they're UK based and say that with their unlimited package, it is literally unlimited, when you fill a hard drive up it will run on the next one and so on.

Its fairly expensive at £3 a week but if what they say happens then surely its a good buy?

umm i would be very very careful about any provider offering "Unlimited Everything". Most good quality hosts might offer a few "unlimited options" but not everything. Keep your guard up.

cheap unlimited hosting will lead to overselling.
which is result in very poor services.

Yeah - it isn't really "unlimited" per se because they stick that * there and explain that it all has to be reasonable usage and all related to your website etc.

On the one hand it is still very cheap and risky (on their part, and any customer putting faith in them) but on the whole they will probably get away with it because most of their customers will use a few hundred MB space at the most.

For £3/week (~£12/month) they should be able to sustain a few GB space for each customer without issues - so even the occasional customer who may want to use 50GB space or more should help them balance it all out and survive.

It boils down to nothing more than marketing - but it's bordering on dishonest and (as above posts show) leads to suspicion (rightly so because they're not offering unlimited anything really).

Any web hosting company which offers unlimited service options is obviously doubtful because in web hosting business there is nothing called as ‘unlimited’ unless the company is compromising in other areas of their service.
One can think about the unlimited offer at least if the prices which they offer are not dirt cheap because if the prices are so low you are bound to have some bad experience in the hosting service.

But many companies offer unlimited service options and I can't say they are bad.

Have you ever heard of unlimited hard drives?

The two are explained here http://whreviews.com/unlimited-bandwidth.htm

Basically there is a cut off point somewhere were the host will say no you have uploaded too much or use some other excuse to get you off their servers.

The usual excuse (that I've read Host Gator use anyway) is CPU usage.

I think it's probably difficult for the average end user to understand that hard drives are limited, because they see them as pretty cheap.

The reality is that a server needs multiple quality hard disks in a RAID configuration to ensure both speed and reliability. Also, unless you use a SAN based system, it becomes difficult to add a large number of disks to a small 1U or 2U server...

Correct. So beware of those hosts that say they will add another hard disk when you contact them.

Several friends I know have contacted these webhosts and been told they will just add another hard disk when they run out. They are relying on people who no very little or nothing to push there business forward. The newbie sees unlimited and thinks great much better then the guy that was offering 1gb or 2gb for a reasonable price. The reality is very different.
