Web.Com is the WORST

I am not trying to get 4 domains away from their clutches

customer service is awful, one them emailed me and told me to call their customer service, I asked him "aren't you customer service?" he said "yes, but that is a different department."

for a few years, there was a robot.txt file blocking google, I never ever put it up there, I didn't know much about robots until I looked into why google never picked up my sites. Either someone maliciously accessed my site or some dopes at web.com when they set up my account, added that file by default.

anyhoo, I am off to Ipower.web...

I prefer godaddy web hosting as they are the best in web hositng even 1 and 1 is providing good service to their custoemrs now.

The best quality hosting I've found is pair.com. There service department is pretty good - usually gets back to me within an hour on any email inquiry.

I agree with you guys. Customer service that is most important thing and cour current customers pay lots of attention to it

If you mean hostmonster, it's part of bluehost. They are one in the same.

In the past, I have used and hated Dreamhost. Their mail server constantly went down at least once a day and my sites loaded rather slowly. Granted they are php-driven, but on other hosts, they loaded much quicker.

I've heard that 1 and 1 is the worst and hostgator is pretty good.

IPower Web was the WORST experience ever. EVER. I have never had a website dissappear without warning (several of them actually). Apparently this happened to a LOT of people, because when I would call they would put me on hold for 45-60 minutes. It was terrible. I'm so glad to finally be done with them (It took more than 6 weeks to finally get my account moved) - I'm with Hostmonster now, and I love it... When I start a new site, it's up and running instantly, never had a single problem. Customer service is a very important feature!

Gator is awesome

They can be named in general I assume. Because that is dishonest and there are no the best or the worst company ever.

Hostgator = nice for PHP sites. Has great support and lot's of great "hidden" features you rarely see in most hosts like this.. eg. SSH access, subversion etc..

Servage.net = worst I've encountered so far.
My account has been hacked two times the past year. Never heared a word about it from servage. Visa was actually the one who let me know that servages security had been breached and creditcard info had been stolen, when they called to tell me that they had to freeze my credit card because of it.
Servage was fully aware of what had happened and they didn't bother at all to tell their customers. All they did was add a silly captcha at the login page (which didn't work that well anyway). All my websites was injected with malicious code and it took me weeks before I noticed. All servage had to say about this was "Sorry for your inconvenience" etc.
Also, their uptime is really bad. database, ftp and http services seem to take a nap several times a day.
+ They just skim though their support tickets at best. Sometimes their replies aren't even remotely relevant.

one.com isn't great either. I've had to stay with them for 6 years now, because you HAVE to cancel your account like 3-6 months before the renewal. They wont let me move my site over to a different host at all.

I had a really bad experience with Streamline.net so I switched to 1 and 1 and have been very satisfied. They provide lots of tools that make it easy for you to create forms, newsletters etc, very handy for an novice/intermediate webmaster like myself.

The best vps hosting I've had is the one I'm using now, KnownHost. The performance has always been excellent, as are the backup options. It is the only vps I've had with which I feel my client's websites are safe and nodes never impacted by resource hogs. I'd have to pay premium for a Litespeed license to get better.

The best shared hosting I've ever had was Dathorn. I don't have a use for shared hosting right now, but the owner Andrew is the most competent sysadmin I've ever hosted with. If I needed shared again I wouldn't bother with anyone else.
