Hello there

I got following situation, atm I am using VPS , however I have my own server which I plan to use for my service. Im looking for a reliable provider where I could put my server with good upload speeds ( high demand )

1. Im looking for such service provider in Southern UK, is there any?
2. A reliable good service like that - what would be the costs?
2. How do you call such service here in UK?
3. What are possible connection speeds that can be achieved?

I believ it should be much cheaper than renting the dedicated server, since u got the server yourself and all your paying for is the spot and connection speed, am I correct or not?

Hope you can help me out
Thanx

JT

I presume that your server is a rackmount?

You pay per U for colocation rackspace. Connectivity will depend on the provider that you choose; usually you will connect to a switch provided by your colocation provider - they will then buy bandwidth from one or more bandwidth providers and give you access to that.

It would also (usually) be possible to arrange your own connectivity, assuming that you colocate in a carrier-neutral datacentre. However, for a single server this would work out more expensive (since small amounts of bandwidth cost more / Mbps).

You're basically paying for the rackspace, power, and connectivity. You should also consider the additional services that your provider may offer such as monitoring, firewalls, remote hands, kvmoip etc. as these will likely be important to you at some time or other.

You'll find lots of providers of this nature in London datacentres. As a manchester based provider, I'm not sure who I'd recommend in London... you may like to take a look at these to get an idea of pricing though:

No, as I said, we're a Manchester based provider. Currently our only interest in London (and other Southern UK facilities) is with respect to peering arrangements that our bandwidth providers have.

I found the above colo companies via a quick Google search - simply as an indication of pricing.

Real-world speeds will depend on many factors - particularly peering, number of hops etc.

I would suggest that you talk to the providers you're interested in for more details, but taking Black Cat as an example:

Redstation also have this: http://www.redstation.com/colocation...rice_list.html

Basically the maximum/average that you can get will depend on your budget. The limiting factor in virtually all cases will be the connectivity speed of those connecting to your server (e.g. your website visitors) rather than your maximum connection speed on the server.

Obviously if you have a lot of simultaneous visitors (e.g. downloading files) you'd benefit from having lots of bandwidth available in order to support decent speeds for all downloaders.

I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I hope it helps a bit?
