Hi...
I have been with the same company (One World Hosting) for over three years. We had previously experienced excellent service. With the turn of the new year (2004) the tech support now ranges between non-existant to poor. In the past month, our server has been down twice. Once it was down for nearly four and a half hours two weeks ago. Today, after over 48 hours of using their tech support ticketing system and calling them, they have finally corrected my Domain's failure to deliver any email to any account.
I have had enough. I was with ValueWeb before this and the email service was spotty at best with terrible tech support technicians that didn't know half of what they needed to. Before that I was on CyberMail servers and lost all email capabilities with no response or support.
I am absolutely sick of doing research on this. I started when Tech Support started failing me so miserably in January of this year.
It took me months of research to make an educated decision on a hosting company well over three years ago. I tested the webserver's accessibility from Poland and other East European countries. I am extremely dissapointed that One World Hosting has become such a sad and pathetic choice.
It's time to abandon a sinking ship (Tech Support is the first thing to go south in a hosting company). That's why I am asking other reseller webmasters if they have a better deal with a different company (other than mentioned above).
I am not looking for advertisements, I am looking for an honest opinion on a service which you use. Do not respond if you are trying to sell me on your service, you are biased.
I now host a couple of sites (my own, a Domain registration site, a hunting/fishing/adventure directory/community, a pheasant hunting farm, an Italian information site). Some are mine, some are not. I would host more of my own planned sites, if I could afford too. I do plan to start a web hosting branded site as well (at the very least).
What I am looking for is:
1) A real reseller program where I can take advantage of new website setup automation instead of requiring me to set up everything by request or by hand. This means Instant Account Activation for my clientele.
2) Customizable and rebrandable platform. Though I am primarily a web/graphic/logo design/development and SEO firm, I may as well take advantage of a negative situation and get a REAL hosting reseller program that I can take advantage of. One World Hosting has been promising me a rebrandable Control Panel for well over a year. I need to put my own tools, scripts and utilities in the Control Panel, aside from the standard stuff, and to remove crap.
3) Multiple Backbone connectivity on GLOBAL networks. I prefer AT&T and GC (Global Center) networks because they have a REAL global presence and sites on these networks load quickly and reliably world wide, even in backwards countries on a noisy dialup connection. I also like Qwest for national coverage. But I need at least 2 Tier 1 networks that have an international network, as a mininum. I need to maintain a Global presence, not a US internet presence.
4) Linux Apache only. Own cgi-bin, Perl, php, Python, must be standard (without added upgrade costs) on every account. Streaming (Flash/Shockwave/QuickTime) required (we sell this stuff). Server must support MOD REWRITE and a few other mods. An SMTP Mail service requiring verification is prefered. An Anti-SPAM and Anti-Virus program package monitoring incoming email traffic that actually works is considered a big bonus but MUST NOT BE BASED SOLELY ON HUERISTICS (I need to ban: email sent FROM Domains, email addresses, IPs; specific email addresses in the TO field; and specific text strings in the subect line of emails).
5) Fast servers. The faster the better. I prefer 1.5 GHz (absolute min) or much better processors. Multiple processor systems also outperform single processor systems. No Celeron class servers... that's not a server (and anyone using such a beast should be flogged), but I have no actual preference between Intel, AMD, RISC, or G5.
6) Fast data recovery, DB manipulation and script performance. UltraSCSI HDs are better than UltraATA (100 or 133) HDs. HDs must spin at a mininum of 7200 RPM.
7) Gigabit Ethernet on CISCO equipment prefered.
8) Secure Building, monitored network, redundant firewalls.
9) Deisel backup power generator.
10) REAL DEDICATED TECH SUPPORT. It would be a plus if the hosting company wants to handle the tech support for the resold accounts I acquire as well, but this is not a requirement. I like talking to my clientele and making sure that they are delivered exactly what they need in a freindly manner. But the Tech Support that I get MUST be top knotch.
My options are as follows:
A) Sign up as a shared hosting reseller with a current shared hosting reseller program.
B) Sign up as a shared hosting reseller on a dedicated server.
While I am looking for a quality web hosting and reseller solution, I am still on a budget and would still need to be competitive with my resold accounts as well.
If you know of a solution that meets these requirements you may PM me or simply respond here in this thread. I prefer that people resopond here if they can. If you decide your company has what it takes to deliver the above, don't spam this article, just PM me.
