Im looking for hosting with support for PHP5 and dompdf or any other open source PDF export tools.

Only need it for 1 site, but would like to host multiple sites the 1 host. I do not need the "5 million" gb space unlimited bw etc as these are small sites, looking at 1gb space max!

cheers

Well, I would recommend servage (link in my sig) as a very good PHP5 host.

I personally don't know any host with dompdf support, but you could always use the Zend framework to export your pdf files.

I know that www.1&1.com provides php hosting, you may also have a look at www.onthespothosting.net shared services, they provide php5 and download dompdf from digitaljunkies.ca

I'm not certain about your needs, but you may also like to take a look at FPDF. It's slightly different in that you *create* the PDF via PHP, rather than throwing HTML at it for it to convert - but it most cases that makes no difference, just a different technique to provide the input which generates the PDF.

The best thing about FPDF (apart from that it's free!) is that you don't need anything special to run it - no specific extensions etc.

Saying that, most decent hosts will be happy to re-compile PHP with some extension that you need if you ask...

PS Orodreth, I think it's pretty low that you're recommending a host based on an affiliate link - if you find them to be a great host, that's good, but recommend them on that basis alone (i.e. don't seek to benefit from a recommendation!). It helps people to know that your recommendation is genuine rather than from some ulterior motive...

Find it as low as you wish! I don't recommend them because of that link, I recommend because I like them and since I have got a coupon link, why wouldn't I give it? It gives both scudz and me an advantage: I get two months free, and both scudz and I get 25 Gig extra. What's wrong with using that advantage?
He doesn't have to use the coupon anyways, it's in the link, but he could just remove it when purchasing. By the way, if he really doesn't want to use it, here's a normal link: http://www.servage.net

I don't go and recommend every host on the internet just because they can offer me something. I do it only when I like them and when people are asking for recommendations, like now.

Orodreth, perhaps I wasn't 100% clear... I will clarify my point with respect to the affiliate link issue.

The problem is that affiliate schemes encourage people to recommend for the wrong reasons - this doesn't mean that you personally are doing so, but it is a fact that it happens.

My personal opinion (doesn't mean anyone needs to agree with it) is that recommendations should be based on positive personal experience with that provider. Obviously this is what users are looking for when they ask for help, and for them, I would suggest that selecting which people are genuinely trying to help is best done by ignoring those who stand to gain from it - i.e. if someone strongly recommends a hosting provider with an affiliate link or similar for them, that user will gain in some way from offering that "advice", so it may not be genuine?

In your particular post above I would have expected someone looking to be helpful (vs. get an affiliate signup) to post the standard link instead of just point to their sig., and explicitly state that if they wish to follow your advice that you would appreciate them using the link in your sig. so that you both benefit etc.

In other words, affiliate schemes themselves are part of the issue (because I don't believe that it encourages honest recommendations), but the other part is that I would prefer you to be very clear, open, and honest that the link in your sig. is an affiliate link (especially when directing people towards it) instead of relying on the user to figure it out and avoid if they wish etc.

Does that make it any clearer?

I encourage everyone who has good things to say about any provider to speak up, but it annoys me when hosts get good press because they offer certain incentives for doing so. I accept it may not be the case in this instance, but it just felt like it

Well, you've got a point with the "being clear", and normally I do give people a normal link and a coupon, separately (I did all the previous times at least). I guess I didn't want to explain everything again this time, but I'll make sure it's the only time.
