Well, you'll need software. The Apache software (http://apache.org/) is recommended and most popular among servers. Then, you'll have to install other things such PHP and mySQL.

It may be wise to check with your ISP before you begin hosting your own website from your own system. They may not allow it.

It might be best not to. It would cost a lot to keep running and would perform poorly.

Your website would be very slow even on a fast connection to the internet. It would only be available to view when your computer is online, which presumably would not be 24/7. It would also be a large security vunerability.

The reason for the connection thing is....I'm assuming you have either Cable or DSL. Either way, unless you have a high-end connection, you have a good download speed, but a crappy upload speed. That's the way mainstream Cable and DSL lines are. Think of it in reverse, they're downloading from you, which is you uploading. So they are getting your bad upload speed. It's bad service. Plus, most ISP's won't allow it.

Right. Most will not allow it but you can still do it for a while. Then they will start blocking your ports. Not good.

Also, if you want to use your domain for email, then you will find out that all of the big boys (AOL, MSN, RoadRunner, Earthlink...) block email coming from a personal connection.

Spend a few bucks a month and get the good speeds and reliability to have your site hosted. You and/or your customer/friend will be much more satisfied.

Yea.. I also suggest that web hosting from u'r own system is not a good idea.....
