Me and my friend want to own domain. We are gonna spilt the costs. All we want is a few pages, a place to host pics, several movies, and some short Flash movies.

What would we need to buy one and what company should I use?

Thanks!

Well, if you want a domain name, most people will recommend GoDaddy.Com. From personal experiece, I say go with RegisterSite.Com. Slightly more expensive, but I've had nothing but happy stories with them. As for hosting...provided that those movies are your own (non-pirated), my host will host you. You need to apply for domain hosting (once you buy your domain), and the only hard part is coming up with a good site description (visit the forums, I have a good topic about making good descriptions pinned in one of the forums). Our host is just as good, if not better, than many paid hosts. Plus, since you're new, you don't need to invest money in something like this. Hence: my host is free. Hope this helps.

Whats the diffrence between a domain and a host?

Is a domain just the name and the host is where you put everything?

I was checking out hose sites that you listed, and most of them are yearly, what if I want monthly?

Domain names are like Google.Com, or Webmaster-Talk.Com. That's the name of the site. Domain names are always bought by the year. You can buy them for 1, 2, 5, whatever at a time, but it's for a year. Your host is where all the files for your website are placed.

Ok, thanks.

Now how much would hosting cost me if I were to pay?

Hosting can cost anywhere $1/month to hundreds a month. Like I said, being new to the whole thing, I recommend going with free hosting. I've found no better free hosting than my own, and I'm not being biased. I was a customer before I was staff.

Whats the benefit for you if you host my files?

Satisfaction of knowing that we've helped someone. Seriously, we place no ads or anything on your site.

Good luck with the Web site. I just want to say be weary of free Web hosts. How do you think they stay in business if there goal is to not make money?

Well, our host makes money off of the Google Ads we place on our homepage (note: our page, not yours) and some of our users place our ads on their site, adding to what we can get. Also, we have some people who pay us for reseller hosting.
