Today I registered an account with godaddy. Big mistake. I bought two domain names- each around $10. It took a while for the process to go through until I can finally view them under "My domains". Once they were there, I had to go through another process of enabling the control pannel which took another 5 minutes. My original intent for the two sites was to transfer them to my account over at www.freehostia.com and make them website directories so I use the file manager to put up the script. As I am trying to find my way to the page where I can change my dns to the ones over at freehostia, I notice that they do a ton of advertising. All I see is Buy This, Buy that, only $3.45! Why are they advertising so much? I already bout the names, they won't leave you alone. Most of the software for the site you have to pay for, it blew my mind. The next day, I finally transfer the domain after waiting for customer support to contact me. That has been my worst experience with any hosting comany. I don't understand why everybosy loves godaddy? Freehostia is much better in my opinion. It has an easy CP, around 13 free software programs, including CMSes, ads on only a few pages, and when there are ads, they are small and for their company. Instead of email support, they use a ticket system that has worked very effectivly. The last ticket I sent in was replied in 11 minutes. Any comments on Godaddy?

If I were betting on who would still be around in 5 years, I would bet on Godaddy.

Now if all you want to do is point your domains to an account you have at the other place, I or some one will tell you how to do that if you are to lazy to RTFM. It is a simple matter of changing the nameservers.

That was simply a SPAM!
The guy is comparing a ICANN accredited domain registrar with a cheap/ free unknown web host!

Obviously he doesn't know how to change the name servers! One thing I always check is, the number of posts anyone has made. 1 post wonders who suggest any site is a spammer in almost all cases.

Hi ... domains are easy-peasy to buy at godaddy.com, I buy everyone I can via godaddy.com. Simple, straight-forward, after first one, and fair prices. Simply point 2 your host.

Although I agree, who'll be re: around in five years and am so-so on Candice Michelle -- more bumps she takes in the ring, the more I like her -- godaddy.com hosting is iffy, at best, and support, although nice guys and a few ladies, is horrible, if well-intentioned.

Shared hosting at godaddy.com can handle any size data base, IF it's 500 meg or less. Huh? Right now, godaddy.com can only load a 500 meg data base, come hell or high water. Think of it this way, the room where dbs live, on godaddy.com, are almost the size of the cosmos, but the doorway is only 500 megs wide.

I was tempted to go to a VPS, which godaddy.com prices fairly, but a friend came to my rescue, gave me a gig on his dedicated, to host the data base flies. The page + code are still in development, but if you wanna try, go to http://www.rpmmusicweekly.com/ls/search.php. Swoosh. Well, sorta.

Anyhow, end of August am consolidating all urls at midPhase. Best plans, patient support and, it sure seems, a lot of people happy in their jobs.

Dat's my 2.5 cents. Hope it helps, someone.

Namecheap seems to be fine. I also use them and domainsite.

As I said in my second post, I replied in the manner I did in response to what I perceived to be a spam posting. There are many good registrars out there.

well, freehostia.com seems to be a free host, do free hosts need spamming???
Myriadnetwork.com managed VPS plan seem to be fine, get as much resources with them as dedicated server offers.

No problems with godaddy. They actually answer the phone, partly due to not having a toll-free number. I set up sites for charitable groups and recommend godaddy for both domain registration and hosting.

I actually only usually hear all good things about godaddy.

Maybe best to keep your domain names with them but point them to a reputable hosting coy such as hostgator.

I go for godaddy and 1and1 for domain registration. As for hosting, if you can't afford a VPS get together with a few friends and get a simple one! Atleast I would do that before using a godaddy hosting plan again!

I have to agree with others here: I like GD for domain registration and domain management but they don't have a good clue about web hosting - they throw up too many barriers for us deveopers - such as no SSH allowed and no use of 3rd party SQL tools on their shared web hosting plans.

I discovered 1849webhosting.com - they offer a ton of features with their shared web hosting plans including SSH and 3rd party SQL tool support which I wanted.
