Over a year ago I took over a website for a small mountain town here in Virginia, and moved the hosting and domain registry away from the rather expensive services of readyhosting.com. They have continued to bill us in spite of phone calls and e-mails asking them to cancel the account. My guess is that they are either incompetent, or that this is an intentional practice to bill old clients hoping people will just pay the bill and not ask questions.

Are they actually charging you, or just raising invoices?

If they're actually charging, then contacting your bank/card issuer may help resolve the problem?

What do they say when you call/email asking them to close the account? Do they say that they're doing it, or give some excuses/reasons as to why they won't/can't?

damien_ls, they continue to bill us. We canceled the credit card involved to avoid the automatic billing. And when I asked them to close the account, they say (1) they can't verify my identity, even though they have written to me requesting payment, and (2) they need to talk to us to see if we will reconsider. At this point I've filled out their online cancellation form, requested cancellation by phone, and requested cancellation by e-mail. Each response from them has a different condition, such as "canceling your domain does not cancel your account." Duh. I've told them we canceled both with them, so I'll see what the new excuse is.
