Hi to everyone,
I'm from Italy and bought 10 days ago hosting at ixwebhosting.
Now I would like to change it with other, they have lots of services but too slow for me.

I've uploaded a 7,8 Mb file to they're server and then tried to download it.
Speed was at 60 kb/s!! I use a 4 Mbit/s ADSL connection and for the same file in another server (which belong to an italian company but located in US too) I usually raise the 480 kb/s of speed.

That's a big difference. Too big.
So finally I decided to move elsewhere, taking in consideration Lunar Pages, which I red is most reliable and has good customer care and services.

Some has differet idea?

Please try to download this file from this two different server and tell me the speed you raise in each server:

Same file in each case. After download, you can delete it, or just not finished to download it.

Thank you

Cristian

Both sites reponded in about the same time. I completed the DL and deleted the file for both. The elasped times are for the actual download.

The time of the test was about 15 minutes before the time stamp on this reply.

I got the first location in 17 seconds.
The second location took 25 seconds.
Times are very accurate as I watched the elasped time on a digital clock.

I did one and then the other.

I don't know that 7 seconds difference is that much unless you are moving a lot of data.

I am in the States.

Hope this helps you

Thanks for your test.

I don't know why, but for me it takes more time to download from the first link than for the second. For you is reverse.

I'm in Italy but both sites are hosted on american servers.

That's very strange.

It all depends on how the connection is routed and how many hops there are. I might ping the person next door to me who is using a different provider and the connection may be routed halfway around the world before it gets there.

In your case from the US to IT, I would think there would only be a few choices. But I could be wrong. Maybe it leaves the US from the East and West coast and travel either direction.

Best wishes.

The first link maxed my connection. Second link was marginally slower.

I'm in Romania.

Probably it's like colbyt said ("It all depends on how the connection is routed and how many hops there are"). Romania is more far than Italy from US, but downloads the first link faster than Italy.

Thanks for your help and test.

If you are looking for a reliable cheap host, check out http://web-tiger.net, I use them for a really large forum and I never have connection issues.

Just Windows. But can have MySql database too.
PHP language is optional, but if it is included is better for future potential works.

I bought hosting at ixwebhosting.

I red that ixwebhosting is not so good, but they have lots of services, several included in the monthly fee.

I checked plans at LunarPages, but they don't have dedicated IP for domain, or better, they have dedicated IP just for one domain, in a space where you can host max 10 domain.

10 domain and just one IP? Oh no guys, I need an IP per domain.

Do you use ASP or there are any other reasons why you want Windows hosting only?
